I wonder how things went at JIRCS today - it must have been terribly hot for them - its been about 28 here in Malvern most of the day Miss Rosemary phoned briefly to say she had survived and completed the course and was not last - considering this time last year she had been unable to walk for nearly 18 months we could not be more delighted if she had won - but it would be nice to know who did and how everyone else did too

We got a text saying that it was very hot, and that NW had probably won today, but no further details were forthcoming I'm afraid - don't think mobile coverage is very good there!

Just got another text saying the top 3 scores in the individual were: South West 210, Scotland 233, North West 245.

Well done to all teams who competed at the JIRCS this year. It was held on the Sennybride Training Area, last used for CROESO 2004. The weather all weekend was very hot and the orienteering even hotter.

After the individual day we were fed and watered at the SENTA barracks, where the individual presentations were also held and a friendship relay was organised around the barrack grounds on a specially created Sprint Map.

The relays were very exciting with excellent views of the runners during much of their run, with a spectator control in the assembly area and the last section of every course having to navigate through the army assault course. We had fun last night setting up the handover area and thought the runners would enjoy the run out through the river to keep cool

As reported 1st North West, 2nd Scotland and 3rd Yorkshire and Humberside, all controls in and site cleared by 2:45pm, home by 3:15pm just to catch up on the footie. Hope everyone gets home safe and sound.

Thanks to the planners, organisers and controllers for the weekend and WJS parents for hosting the weekend, see you next year in the North West.

Results will be up as soon as Nick gets home and upacks his car, I would expect them to be on the SWOC website, or if not check the WOA website.

I enjoyed the weekend, thank you to the organisers. If was tough running 8.4km in such heat on Saturday and the relay assembly was great for spectators as you could see the runners as they ran across the massive hill. The relays were heavily gaffled which was quite interesting.

I'm disappointed that the result is not on the BOF news page - I would have thought it out ranked yet another appointment in terms of news-worthiness.

Hopefully some of the athletes from the JIRCS will benefit from the appointment of the TASS (?) Athlete Manager - it's great to see that the sport is getting serious about athlete fitness and development.

I'm sure the BOF Office staff would publish the news of the JIRCS within a few hours of any request though I'm not sure what the guidelines are for newsworthy items. Probably best for the organiser to send a few lines of text with a link to the results.

Actually, I don't think BOF want to publish results of events that other people organise and they're not directly involved with. I organised the Varsity Match in 2009, and sent a very brief report with results to publish on the news site, and was fobbed off with:

However, I'm sorry but I am not able to publish the report on the website.
We simply do not have the staff resources to publish all event reports and therefore we only publish National events on the website.

Seemed a bit petty to me at the time since I did all the work by writing the report! (And since they were able to publish my equivalent report of the 2007 Varsity Match.

I am sure you are correct about that - but it's not TASS calibre youngsters that I'm worried about. Many of the M/W18s at JIRCS will not be in the TASS programme and are about to shuffle into oblivion as far as the sport is concerned. I've mentioned before how disappointed I am to see M/W20s lost from the YBT just when they leave the influence of home and school orienteering and need something to keep them feeling valued in the sport - the down grading the the FCC this year (and next year apparently) is just another nail in the coffin as is the suspension of the university development programme (what's happening about that by the way?)

No one seems very concerned that as far as encouraging these young people to stay in the sport BOF seems to be making efforts to remove the sparse mechanisms there were in existence that might have kept a few interested.

Now one appointment I'd like to see announced on the BOF website is the Childhood-Adult-Varsity Development Officer - we could call the programme CHAV for short
Sorry couldn't resist that I mean an "Into Adulthood Continuation Programme" which would most definitely not be elite based.
