Does anyone know what is the aim of this?
I see alot of initiatives to encourage more local orienteering from many clubs. However, this seems to be setting up a Regional Club and giving it the attention at the expense of the other clubs in that region. Have I missed something?

Could be good for a future London derby.

23 March 2010 BOF web site news item:
Increasing Club Talent Squads Project
Can you identify approximately 10 – 15 athletes (of all ages) within your Orienteering Club who may benefit from the development of a ‘Club Talent Squad’ section within the club?
If so, British Orienteering is now offering your Orienteering Club the opportunity to apply to become a member of the ‘Increasing Club Talent Squads’ Project. Applications from English Clubs to become a member of the ‘Increasing Club Talent Squads’ Project should be received at British Orienteering by the 30th April 2010. An application form is available for download here.
‘Increasing Club Talent Squads’ Project Selection Criteria
Clubs will be selected based on the following criteria:
•Clubmark Accredited (or equivalent) or clubs looking to achieve Clubmark status within the next 12 months.
•Able to establish a facility/base within easy access of a populated area to act as a regular meeting point.
•Able to provide a tutor/assessor to act as a mentor to squad coaches, or someone willing to become a tutor/assessor.
•Willingness to develop more qualified coaches within the club.
•Keen to increase the amount of coach/athlete contact time within the club.
Those Orienteering Clubs that have been selected to become a member of the ‘Club Talent Squads’ Project will be contacted shortly after the 30th April 2010 application closing date, so that work with the National Talent Manager can begin during May 2010 for a period of 12 months. It is expected that the National Talent Manager will work closely with each club not only to help set up the ‘Club Talent Squad’, but to also support the development of the coaches by introducing them to the Orienteer Development Pathway, assisting them with the design of suitable progressive sessions and, by encouraging them to prepare ‘individual personal development plans’ for each of the ‘Club Talent Squad’ athletes.
Additionally, those Orienteering Clubs that have been selected will be able to benefit from small amounts of additional funding from British Orienteering to support them with setting up and publicising the new initiative.
Finally, it is worth noting that the ‘Increasing Club Talent Squads’ Project has been designed around a whole club commitment. The success of the Project is dependent upon club committee involvement and not just a minority or small group of people within the club assuming complete responsibility for the Project.
Is your Orienteering Club now interested in the ‘Increasing Club Talent Squads’ Project?
If you are interested in developing a ‘Club Talent Squad’ then please email a completed application form to Sarah Hague, National Talent Manger with a brief explanation of what your orienteering Club aims to get out of the ‘Increasing Club Talent Squads’ Project and any potential ideas/plans for your ‘Club Talent Squad’.

Many of us have learnt to navigate the hard way - by trial and error. If I had been able to take advantage of some club and regional coaching (when I was fit enough to put it to good use), I might have made the National team....... oh sorry day dreaming again, rather I might have achieved 8 mins per km!
