Folks, is anyone experienced in the finer detail of changing batteries in EMIT control units? Replacing the battery is easy. I've seen some guidance on re-setting the unit by grounding the collector on one of the transistors - I tried this without success.
One unit with a new battery has the LED light on full-time (and doesn't respond to a brikke), the other unit shows no sign of life, even with a new battery.
Cheers, John

Re: Changing EMIT Control Unit Batteries
The units are not designed to have replacement batteries, provided used sensibly they will last about 10 years, although that will vary depending on usage, also better if used regularly and not left idle for long periods. If you open the unit then it is probably no longer waterproof and you have to be careful that new battery is both suitable and sealed properly and as with all these things technology moves on and the new controls have updated software.

Re: Changing EMIT Control Unit Batteries
Thanks Allan,
All I want to do is keep down the cost of orienteering. I have three failed control units, dated 02-32, 03-44 and 04-04 (year-week), i.e, these have all failed in less than 10 years.
Our capitalist world has a bad habit of securing future sales by designing equipment for 'use and dispose' without concern for throwing stuff into landfill. Do EMIT have an exchange price, i.e. return the failed units for replacement with a significant discount?

try google translate.
Also at least one company here in Finland had replaced control unit's batteries for 32 euros per unit.

Re: Changing EMIT Control Unit Batteries
Sorry John, EMIT only offer discounts on units that are up to 5 years old, the problem is knowing what users have done with the controls and cards. I have often found cards and controls put into the same box and even had them posted back to me like that. When that happens the controls can run down quicker. What I do now is use controls for 8 years and then use them up on our POCs where it is not vital if they fail, and if we have an event on the POC we just check them beforehand.
