Re: Tio Mila 2010
Why aren't there any British teams in this yet lots (relatively) in the Jukola? Is it just that it clashes with the British champs? Why aren't all our British folk in 1 team or is the definition of a "team" stricter in the Tio Mila so the casual hotch potches of the Jukola can't enter?

Re: Tio Mila 2010
Because it's cold and super hardcore. Whereas Jukola has a great holiday feel, only a very small fraction of the orienteering is actually at night, and it's generally warm enough the whole time ot hang around and banter.
Tio on the other hand can be snowing, wet, and when they say night O, they really mean it. I have quite often looked at legs on the Men's long night course and just though " I couldn't do that in the daytime." It really is something else.
And there has been a full British team - my first 10mila was with JOK a good few years ago now. Shortly before they decided that Jukola was far more fun!
(I say fun but I don't really mean it. They're both absolutely amazing. But whereas your average punter who orienteers once a year can and regularly does take on Jukola, Tio is more serious than that.

Re: Tio Mila 2010
SYO has had a team at Tio a few times previously, but never at Jukola, so this year we're going to Finland. Most of us will be there for "fun" and the experience, but SYO1 is also going to be quite a good team...
Has anyone got suggestions for where to find the live video feeds from Tio...

Re: Tio Mila 2010
Another name to look out for is Edinburgh centre of Excellence coach Toni Louhisola, running last leg for the Turun Metsankavijat 2nd team. Doug tells me that Toni's Tio Mila claim to fame is losing out in a sprint finish for 1st place to Janne Salmi after catching him 4 mins on last leg.
Doug also telling me that Ravinen are having to change their team as their 1st leg runner is ill. He is now going to be running a night leg but not sure which one yet.

Re: Tio Mila 2010
Ladies teams to look out for include:
team 14 -- Göteborg-Majorna 1
1st leg Pippa Archer
4th leg Helen Bridle
team 59 -- IFK Lidingö SOK 2
1st leg Rachael Elder
team 64 -- Wing OK Trondheim 1
2nd leg Helen Palmer
team 101 -- NTNUI 3
4th leg Tessa Hill
team 198 -- OK Ravinen 2
5th leg Sarah-Jane Gaffney
Women run 5 legs and kick off 2pm UK time Saturday afternoon.
To get an idea of the strength of mens / womens teams (although they obviously change year to year), for the top 200 teams or so the team number is a reflection of last years finishing position.

Re: Tio Mila 2010
With a bit of luck through the night IFK Göteborg will finally win it after 65 years of trying. Halden will be the toughest challenger, followed by K-Rasti. KOK will lose time during the night but still pull back to challenge for a 3rd/4th place. Only these 4 teams have a good enough last leg runner to win it.
The girls I've got no idea but if I was a betting man I'd put £100 on Ulricehamn to win

Re: Tio Mila 2010
Greetings from the Media Room at TioMila. It is rather cool here, overcast, with the promise of light rain! But the action is as hot as ever.
I think Speaky might be running leg 9 now - but all will be revealled soon enough.
The women leaders have just finished leg 2 and Per Forsberg is doing his usual 'heated' commentary.
The Junior relay was won by some Norwegians from Raumar and at my club, Ravinen, our first leg runner Assar Hellstrom (one to watch out for in the future) took 41 places on the last leg to come from 51st to 9th - (top 10 on the podium!).
Why no British Teams this year? Certainly the BOC clash. Many of the Brits that are here live abroad and some of the others here have lived abroad. My club is no exception in that they give me an annual grant, pay for my race entries, accom and travel to races like TioMila, National Championships and Eliteseriens and weekends like now, there is food on tap. You get take care of and there is a real 'club' atmosphere.
Why would I forgo all of this, as well as annoy the loyalty of my club, to run for a GB team?
