I thought I would open up a fresh thread as we approach BOC. The area was looking great yesterday. We are looking forward to welcoming you at the weekend.

I'd never trust a BBC forecast 5 days ahead - for our event last Sunday they were about correct that it would rain at some point in the day but when and amount weren't right. As I was involved I could have told them it would rain from 9:45 to about 12:15 - it always does when I plan / control (unless it snows or blows a hurricane). Sunday was no exception accept it confined itself to moderate showers.

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
I see there's been an email asking people to register their relay teams by tomorrow night. Having looked at the entry list, I'm amazed how many clubs have still to do it. Surely the point of on-line systems is to ease all procedures for competitors and VOLUNTARY helpers so all you out there who haven't done so yet, get your **** in gear and get declaring. You can always make substitutions on Saturday if someone is unlucky enough to get injured.
I speak from experience - there's enough to do on the weekend without having to type in lots of names etc fom scratch.

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
I must disagree - what if we have 6 people who could all be in our first team, and ~12 fighting it out for positions in each of our teams? - the whole point of relays is that you select your best team on the day and go for the win. We have a vague idea of what our teams may be, but it's by no means concrete! It's easier for us to declare our team by the deadline based on their performance on the saturday, as well as their overall form, than make any changes, as there'd likely be much faffing between our teams!
Also, it's difficult to get everyone together to discuss the relay teams in the week beforehand - and that's for a club in which all the members live within a mile of each other! So if we're offered the chance to delay our decision to make the best choices for the club, we're going to take it thank you.

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
Likewise my closed club has declared the one of our 6 runners who we know will be in the best team - the other 2 places running with him are up for grabs depending on performance in indivdual days.
That said:
We of course do not live within 1 mile of each other nor 400 for that matter but there is the web and phones and SMS and MMS and........oh it's the information age
We of course exist to protect democracy not practise it - so when all else fails the Capt and I tell them what team they are in
What is this discuss thingy

BOF rules wrote:3.2.1 A competitor shall only compete for the open and / or closed club which is indicated on their British Orienteering membership card for that year.
Perhaps if you checked membership cards to ensure that all your prospective team members were actually eligible it might ease your selection problems

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
We have extened relay declaration to Thursday early evening ( there probably wont be another email going out though)
It would be great to reduce the workload for the registration team if everyone could do it rather than leaving it till Saturday afternoon even if it might change it still makes life easier for us.
Thanks
Stodge

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
Just declared our teams but I do expect changes right until the day, that's just how it is and I don't think this will ever change.
If I didn't look on here I probably would not have known anything about deadlines, I was working on the details given on the event website, which somewhat unrealistically asks for teams to be declared at time of entry!!??
It seems a different approach is being used here, cajoling people to declare asap, fine if it reduces workload. At the JK I went to sign the forms on the Saturday as requested and was asked were all the teams final and why didn't I wait until 3 pm...

Oh believe me they have to be eligible to claim travel expenses

Glad you used eligible rather than competitive, much closer to the truth

Eligibility apart, who do we think is going to win?
With people at Tiomila, the elite fields are a bit thin. Unimaginatively, I reckon OJ will defend his title and Sarah will win the ladies. Couple of minor medals for the Crane household.
Relay, Sheffield to beat Edinburgh: SYO ladies to beat EUOC and SYO men having the strength in depth to beat BOK and INT. (Shuoc leave selection too late and pick the wrong team
)
Anyone else want to try?

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
Surprised to see 2 people who ran for a Swedish club at the JK have now entered the BOC for their UK club. Thought you were only allowed to run for one open club in a year
Am I wrong?

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
Regarding the running order on the Mixed Ad Hoc - will the actual running order appear online at some point. I'm assuming (possibly wrongly) that we're all listed at the moment as Long, Medium, Short. Looking forward to a great weekend, and the weather forecast is improving.

Re: BOC & BRC 2010.
ref Adhoc running order.
Until entry changes close (lots of chnages to AdHoc team numbers at the moment) we cannot allocate the team numbers to teams yet.
You allocate your runners to long medium and short to start with and we then allocate these people on to the random running order you are given.
These will be on the team declration sheets in the club bags reday for collection on Saturday but I hope to post the running orders allocated during the morning on Friday.
Any changes to the running order then get done on the Saturday.
Hope that helps
