Have entered son and I for the oringen. I entered us for our usual courses, I usually am happy if I'm at the middle of the field in the long course and son prefers to be in the top third but is also usually middling at M14A. Should we drop down a grade for the Oringen? Hadn't thought about this but at the Ed weekend a couple of folk reckoned I'd been too ambitious and said the Swedes tend to run down and we'd be struggling. I don't really care if I'm in the bottom few but my son will. The distances involved look pretty short by UK standards, and I'm not sure my son can actually run down according to the website as they don't seem to do B kid's courses, just "beginners" classes with no timed results that seems a bit noddy.
How have other average UK orienteers got on at the Oringen? Particularly how have the kids coped?

I am surprised it says there are no timed results for the "U" kids classes. They were timed when we went in 2008 and looking at the results from 2009 they had timing there as well.
Doing the U classes worked out really well for my kids - turn up any time, punching start, a bit of help to get them started, and they loved doing the run-in. They were much younger and less experienced than your son mind.
Edit : reading it again, I think "no timed results" applies only to the Inskolning class - the U classes are timed. This is borne out by last years results.

My kids have done W10, M10, M12 and M14 and were fine.
Stick to your respective courses for the kids.
I have ran M35L and M45L and found them great with times about 2/3rds of UK times when I get it right. However, getting it right is far far more difficult in Sweden. If you make mistakes they can soon add up to quite some time.
By the end of the week you'll have learn't to get it right or hung yourself!!
