Having read so much opinion against the new Single Ranking List I feel obliged to say something in favour of it. In fact I can not see any disadvantages. All you have to do is apply the filter to extract your own age group.
The way that I see it these are the advantages.
1. There are more competitors on a course than in an age class so you get a truer score than you would have done before. In the past in certain age classes you may have been the only one and you would get your average score no matter how good your performance.
2. You can see your ranking compared to other members of your own club by applying the appropriate filter. I have seen some members now interested in the ranking system where before they were not interested in where they stood in relation to other unknown people from all over the country.
3. You can do the same course as your friends and compare splits and route choices and still get ranking points even if it is not the recommended course for your age group.
4. There is no waiting to see your true ranking within a class when you move up an age group.
I accept it may take a while before the scoring becomes completely fair. I for one while be trying different courses to see if it makes any real difference.
I am as competitive as any one else and at Championship events I will be running my age class.

Re: Single Ranking List.
The new Single Rankings system is. I think. one of the best things BOF have brought in in recent years. Simple and easy to use.
I think your point 2 is particularly useful for developing interest in the ranking system.
I like the filtering options. It's more relevent to judge your performance against folk you know rather than be shown you are 3,456th out of 4,463. Would be even better if we had a Regional Association filter.
A shame the algorithm produces a negative number for the under-achievers (output with a zero value). We all had to start somewhere and it would be nice to think that everyone who attended (and finished) an event was at least awarded 1 point. Then all club attendees would be listed in the rankings. That is more motivational for people attending their first ranking events than finding you are not listed. Surely you could add a constant value to everyone just to create a positive number for the algorithm.
Ranking should I believe be as inclusive as possible.
Once club members become ranking aware more clubs might be inspired to put on more level 2 events. A demand driven evolution.

Re: Single Ranking List.
Fully agree.
One thing I've wondered about is whether it would be feasible to add a facility whereby I could "follow" named people, irrespective of their association, age, sex or club. That would be a far more compelling reason to log in than "Find me" (I can use the club filter for that). Probably a non-trivial development effort though...
