As the previous thread has diverged from its previous intention (been hijacked!), here's new one.
With my event planning coming to fruition today, I've now been able to draw breath for long enough calculate the Urban League scores; apologies for the delay. Results after two rounds are here: women men. With twelve races in the series this year, the 'N/2' expression (rounded down if necessary) means that it's six to count.
There have been some changes to Google Docs since last year. They ought to make publishing the results much easier (spreadsheets with multiple pages and frozen row and column headings now upload properly, rather than needing to be painstakingly pasted bit by bit), but you spot a technical problem with the new format then please let me know. Likewise if I've made a data error, e.g. failing to amalgamate two scores for the same person or failing to spot a tie in the results.
It's early days yet, but the numbers of people with two scoring races (sadly excluding me, following my incompetence in Carlisle) number 3, 13, 14 and 15 respectively in the combined junior, open, vet and supervet categories. Although it's tempting to make a glib comment about old dogs learning new tricks after all, in fact the pattern of keen urban-race participants in the older categories is now well-established.
Meanwhile, congratulations to class leaders Rona Lindsay, Andrew Lindsay, Becky Carlyle, Oleg Chepelin, Jane Ackland, Jon Hollingdale, Glenys Ferguson and Doug Henderson. Next: Huntingdon on 20 March, part of a double-header weekend with the Midland Champs.

Nottingham Urban Race
Just picked up a flyer for the Nottingham race on 11 April and I found it potentially confusing.
The Open classes are described as 'Min 16 years on day'. Note that this means that 17-year-olds (for example) may run this course, not that they must do so. For the Urban League, the M/W18- category will be scored on course 3, 'Junior 14+'. Any M/W16s or 18s who choose to run courses 1 (men) or 2 (women) will score points in the Open category.
M/W20, although qualifying as 'Junior (under 21)' for entry fees, will score Urban League points only on courses 1 and 2 and not on the 'Junior 14+' course.
So, for points purposes:
Course 1: Open men
Course 2: Open women, Veteran Men (M/W40+)
Course 3: Junior (M/W18-) men and women, Veteran Women, Superveteran Men and Women (M/W55+)
All subject to the minimum age limits specified by the organisers. Hope that's clear.

Re: Really the Nopesport Urban League 2010
Can anyone enlighten me as to which course I should be running in the Pickering & Ripon
Urban races?
I'm M70 At Pickering do I run B which is shown as M55+ or C shown as Short Men
At Ripon again B is M55+ and C shown as M70
To score in the Nopesport Urban League which do I run in?

epocian: the Men's Supervets points for the Nopesport Urban League will be allocated on the M55+ course in both cases.

Re: Really the Nopesport Urban League 2010
Update after Huntingdon:
women
men.
The juniors who ran the 'Open (M/W17+)' courses have been included in the Open categories. If any of the 18s, who weren't eligible to run the M/W16- courses, would like to be moved into the relevant junior category, please PM me (Elizabeth?).
Surprisingly, not one of the Junior or Open Women finishers in Huntingdon had run in either Edinburgh or Carlisle, so Rona Lindsay and Becky Carlyle still lead. Delia Kingsbury has established a narrow lead over Carol Edwards among the Veteran Women, while in the Supervets Sue Findlay-Robinson leads Lynden Hartmann by two two points and Catherine Odell by seven.
Andrew Lindsay leads the Junior Men ahead of Alex and Tom McCann, and Oliver O'Brien's third score puts him ahead of Oleg Chepelin's pair. Alan Williams and Tony Udris top the Veteran Men's table with three scores each, but Charlie Adams and Martin Ward, separated by just a point, are threatening. Five of the Superveteran Men have three scores; Doug Henderson has a good lead over Steve Brockbank and John Robinson, but (ex-)World Sprint Champion James Crawford won on the day and must be a threat if he can accumulate six scores.

Pickering Urban
Having just returned from Pickering - have to say a very enjoyable Cross country run, with a few more open areas to normal, but very interesting too around the Sports centre, schools and castle. Not TOO difficult with the navigation, but fun to roun around yet another town.
Nottingham next - should be great...
a pity the JK sprint can never be included - or made an urban race (as I know its asprin not an urban race!)

Re: Really the Nopesport Urban League 2010
This is the high point of my orienteering career! Oh I don't know what makes me more happy - going top of the league or being called "youthful" I'm gonna take a screen shot of that to keep forever 'cos it will only last a fortnight.
Mr H is less than happy tho' as he doesn't seem to have got any points for Pickering - please can you put it right Roger? He wants to get as far ahead of you as possible before the rot sets in. He's planning a motorway blockade from the Sheffield direction in time for the Nottingham race and then he says he will retire on a high point

Re: Really the Nopesport Urban League 2010
Mr H's two personae have now been reunited and he moves up to fourth among the Veteran Men. He was probably at the bottom of one screenful and the top of the next when I was doing the late-night de-duplication. Apologies.
As for the 'youthful' Mrs H -- as well as your being at the young end of the category, dynamism, optimism and evident enjoyment are characteristics of a youthful outlook -- in contrast to the archetypical Grumpy Old Man. (Note capitalisation and spelling: no reference to Oldman intended!)

Mr H was only remarking last night how much more effective it was to throw a bit of money at it rather than go training - at least in the short term
Our long term strategy will be to out live all the opposition - but I think we will have to wait for the introduction of the Hyper Vets class for that to happen

How do you think I won last year's Open Women's class? In my case it was more about having the time/inclination to travel to many events (lacking a bit this year), with the most drastic one being the one day trip from Oxford to Stockport, a round-trip of about 500km.
The supervets class appears to be much more closely contested than the open classes, but that is not necessarily a bad thing as the Open/Elite runners have plenty of other competitions to aspire to so the NUL is a bit of an incidental one.
