List of embargoed areas?
In a slight tangent from the CSC discussion, is there a list of embargoed areas available online anywhere?

It would only be wrong if I said it was a complete list.

Try searching yourself.... and you would find this:

Re: List of embargoed areas?
thanks, but.... I'll rephrase my question... is there a complete, definitive list of embargoed areas in the UK online anywhere?
I can think of a few that haven't been mentioned here yet.

I think maintaining such a list on their website is exactly the sort of thing that a National governing body should do - and it would seem that BOF do attempt to provide this facility, as Spookster points out above.
So why aren't more areas listed on it?
I would be inclined to suggest a rule change to the effect that all embargoed areas must be listed on this web page, and that nobody could be disqualified for breaking an 'embargo' that is not so listed.

No.

I'm not even sure if there's a unique definition of "Embargoed". In some places it means
athletes can't go there. In others, it prevent clubs from organising any orienteering activity.
The BNC embargo allowed people to run through the area on paths. I've no idea what you can do in Chorley

Coming soon

Re: List of embargoed areas?
From next year National events* have compulsory embargoes from the moment the area is announced and there must be no competition in the preceding 24 months**....so therefore the BOF fixture list (which can be filtered to show only National events) could function as the embargo list...might make more sense than maintaining a separate and incomplete list elsewhere, albeit with maps
On the other hand, for Regional (L2) events "Embargoes on an area being used for a regional event may be set by the Association registering the event." so there is no compulsory embargo at all, and it's hard to see how BOF could be expected to keep track of the multiplicity of local arrangements the regional associations will come up with.
The WOC test races aren't on the fixtures list yet, but i assume that everyone who really needs to know was informed directly...
*except maybe the JK sprint and the CSC cup final

But by the same token, it's hard to see how competitors can be expected to keep track of a multiplicity of local arrangements. A single page to visit might make sense? I'm not suggesting that BOF should pro-actively seek this information, rather it should be for the organisation imposing the embargo to inform BOF so that it could be recorded.
As for using the fixtures list, that certainly wouldn't work at the moment since, for example, there is no venue listed for next year's British Champs. It's only the embargoes page which narrows it down beyond the whole of Yorkshire. I would imagine it could be quite common for two or three areas to be embargoed while it is decided which one is to be used, and only once the final decision has been made would that venue make the fixtures page.

But the EOC test races are... and they didn't appear on Spooksters first list ( and I can't be bothered looking further... so they might be mentioned elsewhere:) )
