Glasgow Parks Championship

Good to see this stalwart December event now getting the recognition it deserves in terms of numbers even if it does mean Clyde coming away with less trophies than usual. Very enjoyable romp through some of Glasgow's best parkland terrain, and Cathkin Braes .

The only disappointment of the day must be the form of STAGs own John McKendrick, who despite some very active promotion by the compere more or less all day (his brother - you had to be there) unaccountably failed to trouble the podium.

I'm sure someone else said that, but it easily applies to the very small team of Terry O'Brien and his little helpers (although most of them weren't so little).
STAG must have one of the highest EPM (events per member) of any club in the UK, just look at the events list on the stag website, and that doesn't include the 8 night events just gone.

All the talk about this new urban O and accessible events, STAG have been doing this sort of thing for years, this was the 11th year of the Glasgow Parks Champs. If we could just bottle Terry's energy & imagination we could make a fortune on e-bay.

I think I've now worked out how Terry does it! I'm conviced there are actually two of him. Possibly a clone or a secret identical twin. If you look really closely you can see that one of them is slightly fatter than the other. If youre not convinced give his tummy a poke next time you see him. If it feels soft and spongy - its the real Terry. If its a proper six pack its probably the twin.....

Yes, thanks to STAG for another excellent Parks Championships. Great fun for a cold December day, although I thought the quality of the on site cafes wasn't quite up to last year's . The Peoples Palace and Queens Park cafes were particularly good.

btw the Transport museum cafe was not too bad at all but hardly anyone went in there.

Can I suggest an addition to Routegadget of the routes taken between venues, especially Venue 3 ? For us country yokels who rarely venture into the big city the pacenotes were fairly good but my driver gets confused when there are lanes so we had 3 detours on the way, 4 if we count missing the entrance to the car parking field ! Seriously though - this was our first time at the GPC, we had a really good day out (despite having to get up at 6am) and everyone was in good humour. No, I don't know how Terry does it either but the thought of a twin brother is scary.

Yes, the Christmas shopping traffic did make it a bit tight for time didnt it. I was mao reading for Donald in the back of their car and was responsible for a route error in Carmunnock. Hope they never do an urban event there!

I guess since even Jackie didnt make it in time for the start with the conputer stuff theres no shame in being late.

I think that might have been my fault for pointing out that not having a chasing start would have been inherently unfair on on the class leaders (not being biased, of course), so SIman and Jackie were busy sorting out start lists for the final when they should have been negotiating the Weedgie suburbs.

A worthwhile exercise though as it made for very exciting racing in the final!
