Road running's worse - decent trainers only last around 600 miles, so if you're running marathons and the like you'd get through 2 pairs a year at least, at a cost of £50 to £100 each, more expensive than many O-shoes.

You should shop around a bit - I've never paid anything like that

You're lucky (ill-advised ?) if you get 600 miles out of a pair of road shoes ...

... and you're lucky(?) if you run a serious marathon on 1200 miles a year (twenty - odd a week) ...

... and you shouldn't be considering road shoes under £50 at all.

My most comfy pair of road running shoes were reduced at the Nike factory shop in Tillicoultry, Air pegasus about £40 reduced. Far more comfy than a pair costing twice that that gave me blisters the first time I did a road race in them.
If you're not fussy about colours and having the latest model you can usually get a decent pair of trainers for under £50, unlike O shoes/ studs.
Mine are a very girly pink and silver.
Don't understand why all orienteering shoes aren't brown.

My first pair of Air Peg burnt my feet to h**l. Something to do with the Gas Laws - compress a gas and it heats up. My mate's burst on hawthorn thorns. I'm sure they're better now.

I'm a fan of Brooks Beast now. Good pronation protection; good shock absortion; and you don't blow over in strong winds.

And here's a little tip when using eBay. Don't look at the positive feedback, look at the negative. When you start to see numerous complaints saying "FAKE, do not buy" from buyers all across Europe, then you might start to suspect something. Other useful tips, if the item you are buying is the only pair of Asics Ultimate racers to be found on the ENTIRE internet, they probably aren't Asics.

If they are cheap and comfortable does it matter who really made them? Although I suppose I'd prefer to know something was a fake eg fake Rolex so not paying real Rolex prices.
