Thought I'd start a new thread as it is a bit different to EOD one. Maybe this should be in banter but it's serious for me Do you think I will be able to extend my mortgage to pay for my JK fees?

Well, I think you need to speak to the spambots for financial advice, but for the benefit of the debate what are the fees this year compared with next (JK/BOC, not your mortgage fees).

The JK and British' fees have been increasing Year upon year, and well above inflation (they should be decreased this year).
It certainly is almost Extrotionate and almost beyond affordable for a family.
But, I guess they only follow British Orienteering Subscription feeswhich also increase excessively... especially for Single Adults - who seem to always have to levy for children.

And before people start comparing other sports - I do not agree that orienteering is a cheap sport.Add in the expense of travel - with the price of fuel more expensive then it should be, equipment - shoes etc are also very expensive, and dont last a year.

People of course will still attend, but if plenty vote with our feet and dont travel to the far SW, or Scotland, or soon, Northern Ireland, then something may be done. We all know where the profit ends up too...

We all know where the profit ends up too...

So, LOT, imagine what it would be like if British Orienteering had no funding from Sport England. Do you have any amazing suggestions at how we can magically raise tens of thousands of pounds without anyone paying for it?

B.O. could use the money they receive from their Senior members (through membership and entry fees) wisely, rather than paying how many? staff members?
OR spend less on Foreign trips for its 'elite'.

For the relays at least, the entry fees are the same as this year. The JK organisers also deserve some credit for applying the early entry fee until a month before the event.

The BRC entry fees are unreasonable in requiring clubs to decide more than two months in advance what relay teams to enter, in order to get the cheapest rate.

If you actually bothered to look at the BOF Annual Report and/or accounts you would see that none of the income from levies or membership is (currently) spent on the elite/performance/international/whatever-it's-called-this-week programme - that's entirely paid (including staff wages) for by sports council funding which has to be used for the elite/performance/etc programme and cannot be spent on anything else.

Whether or not you think that's a good use of taxpayers' money is a different matter (and note that the vast bulk of that funding is due to disappear in 2013), but it has no direct bearing on event fees.

And Sport England provides the bulk of Development monies to provide the foundation for the continued existence of the sport in this country. This, as I've said before has its own penalties, in that we have to comply with all the state level expectations regarding open communication, eqality, protection and access.

If all you want is a cheap umbrella organisation with no state support and all that implies for and against, create one yourself.
