Does anyone know where there's info as to course lengths etc? Could swear there was some at one point, but can't find any now.
Just I've banter-entered Elite and want to know what I'm in for.
And also might need to advise novice Orienteers on course to choose, if any come down.
cheers!

I believe final details will be up on the website shortly, but you've let yourself in for 13.9km of orange mud with 515m of climb

Make the most of life - you're a long time dead.

don't think I'm going to be able to stomach non-student prices once I graduate!

Count yourself lucky as i thought the closing date for entries,. as listed on the BO website was 2nd December, only to find out that there was infact a cheap rate before 22nd Nov and they went up after that date but will still accept entries (on now checking the flyer) upto the 6th December. So have had to fork out £17.00 per person for an entry plus we won't even be parking anywhere near the area as yet another event where dogs are not allowed! So advertise it as 2nd December, it's actually 17th Nov for cheap rates and final entries on 6th Dec. If the kids didn't want to go this would be another event I'd avoid! Too expensive, ban on dogs - that's me out on the hills with the wife instead for a few hours - as we did today infact - cracking. It's honestly only the kids enthusiasm for the sport that keeps me competing, I'd quite happily jack it in.

PhilJ - what a miserable git you sound. Always moaning about price, price, price and dogs, dogs, dogs. If you enjoy the sport then carry on, if you don't then stop publishing your painful whinges.

Well I thought about entering as there is no night event that weekend but did not think to long when I saw the cost so it is puting people off.

What about folk who enjoythe sport but just can't justify/afford to pay that much for an orienteering course?
End result- can't go to that one. and before you ask haven't been out to cinema for several years only had one family meal out this year (for a birthday) not been to the theatre for sev years also so it's not really a choice of how to spend that portion of disposable income. Some people haven't got much if any disposable income so have to think hard about what to spend it on. Often I'd choose 3 cheaper events instead of one "quality" event.

Same here - decided that this was one weekend too many. Have to admit that this was more because it comes at the tail end of a very enjoyable but high spending autumn rather than the objective cost of this particular weekend. But spending knocking on £40 for a morning's competition even before considering transport etc was putting off when prioritising the calendar (especially when I've a map to get on with!!).

Re: Beaudesert National
Has been a debate on HOC forum re the costs of this one. Well more so the fact the early closing date was three weeks before the event. Several people who might have gone at early cost missed the fact that it was 20th Nov or whatever and have decided that the extra is not worth it. Also debate about costs of litho maps for 1:15000 or poss just elite. Most feel they are subsidising the extra cost of this as a fair number of those getting them are paying student rate.
Our family verdict was:
As son is entering elite and we can meet up with him so we'll go but Husband who is returning from injury wont enter due to the chance of not being quite ready and thus wasting the high fee. I would usually do my age class course but will do Light Green as it is much cheaper and I'll not loose very much in terms of satisfaction.

Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.
