EddieH: we noticed a lot of people switching to short this year, and assume it's the effect of the Nopesport Urban League.

This also includes my assumption that the JK and British will be included, and that I will therefore run enough events to score.

Eddie -- it's unlikely that the JK sprint will be included in the series. As became obvious last year, it just doesn't fit. The Urban League categories are split across courses, and it leads to a proliferation of people scoring just one race. There are also some other issues. More soon from Nope Central, I sincerely hope.

Thanks for replying when there is still presumably time to change my Edinburgh entry. As I am unlikely to attend the requisite number of league events if the age group championships are not included I'll ignre the league and simply run what i want - rather a repeat of another ongoing topic

Negotiations with possible Urban League sponsors for 2009 seem to be taking a while to reach a conclusion. I don't want anyone who runs at Lincoln to feel cheated out of some expected points, so I feel that it's only fair to share this message, received last week:

So far these are the races that look like they'll make up the series:

1. Edinburgh (24 Jan)
2. Cambridge (7 Feb)
3. Forres (22 Mar)
4. York (25 May)
5. Stockport (21 Jun)
6. TBC (likely to be Northern England)
7. London (12 or 26 Sep)
8. Chester (11 Oct)
9. Oxford (31 Oct)
10. Sheffield (Nov)

The bracketed additions are mine -- please check with an authoritative source before booking travel.

I queried the omission of Lincoln; apparently the reasons for this included giving a more even geographical spread and favouring event weekends over one-off races. Please don't flame the messenger! (I ran Lincoln last year and it was excellent -- if you're wondering whether or not to go, don't let a lack of Urban League points prevent you from notching a great experience.)

Perhaps there should be a standardised set of classes/courses to be used in all Sprint races???

But this raises another issue; some city races are not sprint races, e.g. Edinburgh.

Doesn't the designation "urban" cover both sprint and longer races in a city environment? That is what I had assumed.

I know it's an incredible long way off but could the date for London be confirmed as soon as possible - accommodation is so hard to book.

I think you've missed my point.

What I was saying is that there should be a standard set of courses for SPRINT races, the ones where the winning time is 13-15 mins, which is 3.5km max for M21E. The sprint course lengths mean it would be silly to have 25 courses which get shorter by 100m.

Something like:
<12, 1.5km
<16, 2.5km
Open, 3.5km
45+ 2.5km
60+1.5km

(The above is just an example I pulled of the top of my head in the time it took me to write it)

Edinburgh has 2 courses, long and short. One is about 8.5km round the houses, one is about 6km. It's basically an urban middle race, which is great. With longer courses lengths it's best to let people decided what the should run.

The Urban League has both Sprint Races and longer City Races, which is why there has been a lot of "what class do i run" chat from people who would rather get league points than have a nice city race.
