Everybody approaches races differently, but frommy experiences in a lot of internationals and jwoc's, you spend a lot of the time before the races looking at old maps of the terrain and worrying about how you might approach the technical challenges, whether you will suffer from the heat, whether being unable to sleep will affect your performance, whether the altitude will mean you can't run, what quarentine will be like, whether those other athletes that look more competent are prone to mucking up too etc etc, blah, blah blah The list is endless. And at JWOC it is 10 x longer. Stress. Stress. Stress.
The antidote is to go out and race, and realise that orienteering is orienteering, nothing new, you've been doing it for ages, your good at it, when you stay calm and focus you can be awesome. The more races you do, the more experince you gain, the easier it is to focus. Tiredness from other races is such a small fraction of the performance in comparison.
I really hope the GB juniors get to run the B final if they want to. They will be disappointed by missing out - having to argue your way to the startline at the same time as dealing with disappointment is tough. Best of luck to all of the athletes that compete tomorrow. Stay calm, focus, and you can be awesome.

Latest we know is that at least one athlete who would like to run is going for a training run with one of the coaches instead ..... another missed opportunity.

Thanks Housewife.
Pretty much exactly what I was trying to say but said much more eloquently.
Good luck tomorrow to the athletes! Some of the qualifying performances suggest the possibility of some very good results...

Make that all four athletes not starting this morning. GB are the only country to withdraw all their athletes who did not make the A final.

That's really sad.

I'd be quite annoyed if I was one of these 4. Or their parent having forked out 1200 quid.
Today's terrain looks quite fun. Lots of climb, a bit like the Trossachs. Just my sort of thing. Fingers crossed for Sasha in particular, but good luck to all!

Re: JWOC 2016
I remember a young Jamie Stevenson after he missed out on the JWOC final in 1993 – he was so angry and wound up but managed to channel the aggression and won the B. He then went on to help the team to a podium in the relay – the rest as they say is history!

Megan CD is putting together a good run, through the 5th relatively unscathed which has been causing trouble for some

Yes!
Storming final loop from Megan CD, guaranteed podium, but will she get a medal?

Very impressive display on the last loop by Megan. In barely three minutes she's pulled up from 6th to 2nd.
