Planning for Day 1 at Villa Borgese is complete and I have seen Manu's courses, which I think you will all love.

Will we need headtorches for Villa Borghese if it's a evening race? And any news on whether it will be evening, or afternoon?

Interestingly I've never had to produce anything like this for the 10 or so events I've done in Italy - is it a new requirement?

no but Venice and PWT Italy have never complied with the law - and of course I didn't ask for your certificates when you ran in Rome last year

You need a certificate just to join a gym or swimming pool.

So in other words, you have to be fit to stay fit - what happens to all the unfit people who'd like to be fit? In this country the NHS prescribes (and I believe pays for in some circumstances)people to join gyms on medical grounds. Mind you I saw little evidence that approach was working on my trip to London yesterday - just about everyone is fat these days it seems.

So could someone clarify if we, in UK, as BOF Members DO or DONT need a medical certificate?

If your club chairman or lead entry person certifies you are a BOF member you do not need the medical certificate ECG etc. I lobbied hard to get this concession and am beginning to wonder if I wasted my time trying to make things simpler for the overseas contingent!!!

I (and I suspect everyone else) greatly appreciates you lobbying so hard for this concession.

The confusion arises because what you state here and what it says on the email give totally different views. Apologies if I'm missing something, but the email states that

"All athlete members of non-Italian Orienteering Clubs (1 document for each member) must provide an original medical certificate"

and totally separately

"All non-Italian Orienteering Clubs (1 document for each club) must provide the declaration of membership to Orienteering Club and to a National Federation signed and stamped by the Club’s President. "

It does not state that only one of these criteria need to be fulfilled.

I would suggest that you may need to send out another email to clarify the situation; to both prevent those who don't read the forums cancelling unnecessarily, or paying for unneeded certification.

Mike, back to medical certificates I'm afraid. Out club secretary has emailed Daniele to confirm what's needed and has been told that we need
A. Individual medical certificate
AND
B. confirmation that we're members of BOF

As mark's post of the email above says, rather than just B as you suggest.
Which is the case? If you let me know your email address I can pass on the email received.

Hi Jayne,

in classic Italian fashion everything has changed 14 times in the last 3 days and I am rapidly losing the will to live.

Firstly someone (wrongly) told Daniele that everyone at WMOC has all the ECG, spirograph etc.

Then the same someone formally asked a lawyer and a doctor from the NGB for Italian Sport for their view, which was not surprisingly that the Italian law applies (even though it has never ever been applied!!!).

However, having formally asked the question, which no one else has ever done, and got the formal repsonse we are left completely stymied.

So where are we now? I had along conversation with the problem child yesterday to (re)explain exactly what happened at WMOC with Medcerts (Carol and I checked 100s of the bloody things so I can comment from personal experience). I said in my best Italain, with lots of arm waving, that the compromise reached at WMOC and which was endorsed by the IOF SEE was good enough for 2 small Clubs in Rome and she had Bob Hope of getting Swedes to get an ECG to go orienteering.

So, unfortunately, I think we will now have to do the same as people had to do at WMOC i.e get a certificate signed by a doctor (see Stodgetta's post earlier in the thread). Daniele should be clarifying all this by email if he hasn't already.

If, however, you have submitted a certificate for WMOC, if I were you I would take the line I am not paying twice, I gave it in to Italains at WMOC, you find it. The rest of you non WMOCers are going to have to roll over and play dead and get a certificate - I am so sorry about this.

I regret that the actions of one person has caused problems at this relatively late stage but as someone has asked the authorities we are effectively hamstrung. So the short answer to your question, I regret to say, is A and B.

I would also like to stress that none of this faff is Daniele or Helen's fault so please consider that when sending your emails to RoME2013 as it is those 2 who are answering the emails, doing all the work and having to deal with the fallout - they are both top people with your interests at heart.



And just when I thought it could not get worse it turns out the timing software can only handle 30 controls, which came up in a casual conversation yesterday rather than being information shared with the planners months ago! M35/W21 is a minor adjustment but M21 will need a complete replan arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
