Oldman,
The BOF levy is just one of the event costs that has to be taken into account in setting the 6-Day entry fees - and the only one that has fallen over the past two years. Given the other increases in costs we are pleased to be able to hold the rise in entry fees to £1 for seniors and maintain the 2011 level for juniors.

Which can then be used to go towards another quality 6 day and World Championships in 2015, keeping entry inflation low. Problem?

Re: Moray 2013
competing at an orienteering event isnt a Full Day sport
I think this is something the 6-day should take into account a bit more. Although many people do like to get out for another tourist activity pre- or post- run, having other activities going on in the field might make it more of a festival. I'm thinking of stuff like the climbing wall we had at BOC one year, or the ultrasprint mazes which are appearing.
Nice for 2013, but this will become critical in 2015 if the WOC wants families to hang around in a field with nothing to do but spectate.

Good idea Graeme. I guess it might be possible to get the local Army unit involved (I know that Boris at Northern Navigators in Northumberland has a portable wall). I am open to ideas (but it is another thing for Day Organisers to worry about). A military presence may not be to everyone's taste of course...

Don't know about Moray, but there was a certain security I rather enjoyed when marching into the estate at Livingston with a team of uniformed Army-cadet control-guards

Lady and child near the article end are Kerry and Erin Cooper, visiting the Oban 2011 event from Johannesburg, South Africa. And both will also be at Moray 2013.

Looks like a late surge in entries, currently just past 3,450. Anyone know how this compares with recent 6 Days?

Why do people wait until the very very last moment to enter events? There were over 170 entries yesterday, that makes a whole lot of extra work on the closing date for entry folks...

Yes exactly PL and the lastminute.com merchants will probably be followed by 10-12 emails in the next couple of days from people who missed the deadline asking for entry - why so late? I have no idea.
This sort of thing is why I am in favour of punitive entry fees for last minute entries.

There are almost 4 weeks to go before the event and I suspect Mrs PL is going to be responding late into the night to many many sob stories during that time... oh joy.

Yes in a simlilar situation I accommodated the first couple of begging emails but then lost patience and told them theie only option was to enter LG on the day. One lady even sent me 3 further emails complaining about a closing date 3 weeks before the event and it was all my fault and life is so unfair........
Mrs PL has my deepest sympathy for what is to come. Entries are a thankless task, which she deserves enormous credit for taking on, especially at an event of this size.

Re: Moray 2013
I think you need a reality check on why people enter late. I'm currently unwaged so I can't waste money but I wasted money by entering the Northern Champs and have probably wasted my entry fee for the Whitby Urban Race on Sunday because 3 days before the former I hurt my knee while helping at a Schools event.
IF people could get a refund for force majeur issues like injury they might be willing to enter early but that would create even more work for organisers -wouldn't it?

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Because the price rises were too low!
