Re: Scottish Champs & Jubilee5
The BOF rule was written to make it clear that you couldn't go back out should your download splits show that you had missed a control. However should you finish, look at your map and realise that you had missed one you could go back out. As with many rules this one is not as strict as those used for IOF events.
External influences are difficult to legislate for. It is considered OK for the commentator/coach to provide information on one's race position at a spectator control or even whether you have 2 minutes or 20 seconds to complete the run in. Pointing out that a runner has missed the last control seems a reasonable extension of this (is there any real difference in the crowd telling a competitor this before or after they punch at the finish?). Looking at the map extract posted on the Irish team blog I can see why it happened, that last leg was just asking for trouble in my opinion and very much in the tricking rather than testing category.

Leaving aside the apparently yet to be resolved debate about the elite sprints (which I dont think affected any of us lesser mortals) this was a great 4 days of orienteering. Really enjoyed each day for different reasons.

Agreed - I missed the relay but enjoyed the individual, the sprint and the middle. All 3 were challenging, great fun and with good organisation. Many thanks to the various key officials and all the different organisers. Flew back down to Heathrow and had to cope with heavy rain.

All 5 races plus a game of golf. Enjoyed taking part instead of organising for a change. Well done Jon for bringing it all together.

Outstanding set of performances from Cat Taylor, after her best season already by a long way.
its hugely impressive how far Cat has come since she arrived in Edinburgh, when she was pretty much a walking injury
great work and well done

Re: Scottish Champs & Jubilee5
Aye, Cat and Big Jon have both been awesome this weekend.
On balance having heard about the actual rules (rather than just all the chat in the arenas) it sounds like it's fair game to punch the finish and then back out after all. Ah well.. thought I could sneak a couple of extra places there but at least I was able to look smoother than our superstar sprint divas in front of the rowdy rabble of O fans.
Maybe there is still hope for me as a covergirl eh gross
haha .. well not after today's race though

Re: Scottish Champs & Jubilee5
Great weekend, really good to see the top athletes racing it out, and fun courses for the rest of us. Nice to have variety, but I still preferred the classic courses on day 1.
Coming soon
Boston City Race (May, maybe not)
Coasts and Islands (Shetland)

I enjoyed it although only there at the weekend. Loved the campsite and the proximity of the training area, day 1 and day 2 to the campsite. My courses on day 1 & 2 were excellent, shame I wasn't. Was impressed with Taste cafe staying open extra hours and doing special meals for us as well.

Re: Scottish Champs & Jubilee5
What a fabulous place to be. And 4 (I didn't go to MTBO) excellent races of very different character.
Well done for 2 clubs to put on the whole lot with BigJon's presence stamped all over it. A huge effort - I do hope everyone involved feels rewarded for their efforts.
The relay area was an inspired choice (not the most obvious vene, but with great planning not too much climb, and it was so nice to go to a relay with real technical content
The middle race was exactly what a middle is supposed to be, just brillant. How do the elite run so fast
