WOC is COMING

Can anyone get any sense out of WOC's version of RouteGadget?
I cannot get any names of runners, and I cannot get the map enlarged so that any but the South Eastern crner is visible. Am I being stupid? Is there some trick? Does it simply not work?

It look like you need to ZOOM IN and then use the set of arrow controls above 'show connections' to centre it
I am not sure about getting runners names - I'll keep working on that

Hi Eddie,

When new window launches - map flickers. Use zoom in or out to stabilise display. Then pick from top 6 names on left hand side of screen to show routes.

Haven't played with the controls on the right hand side of screen to see if any other routes available.

I don't think its up yet as it now says "not updated yet". There was no list of names when I was in before.
It's like the photos which went up very fast then disappeared and are now back.

It's working now, but only has the routes from the top 6 runners on each course by the looks of things.

Yes it's working but itdoesn't seem nearly as usable as RouteGadget.

I see Oystein lost his SI card in the final and spent (according to his blog) 50 seconds looking for it. How on earth do you lose an SI card?! He missed a medal by 55 seconds.

How on earth do you lose an SI card?!

I lost one once in the US in a mass-start sprint race, when I got stung by a wasp and instinctively used my hand to flick it off my thigh. The wasp went flying, and so did my SI card, into the leaves about 6 feet behind me. Spent about 30 seconds looking without success, then the rest of the pack caught me up so I ran on to the finish punching my map.

Went back to the same spot later, marked out the area it must have been in, and started turning every leaf over. Took me about half an hour, but I found it.

Gutted for Oeystein, he's been training really well the last couple of months and is in amazing shape. Hopefully he and Skjeset can put their frustration into some brilliant relay performances. ..and maybe use string loops to attach their SI cards like our coach made us at Tio Mila.

So who is Alexander Lubina then?

He is actually the fastest runner in the orienteering elite, with personal bests of 7’54’’ for 3000m / 13’38’’ for 5000m. Athletics is his main sport, but is competing in WOC 2008 - he could not qualify for the olympics in Beijing because of injury
problems for much of 2008. He was then 19th in the final - the best result ever for Germany in the sprint. Last year he achieved to be German vice-champion on half-marathon and German champion on 10 km on street.

Elder son lost one at an event at Beaudesert, and then spent 3 hours going back and forth over the same leg trying to find it, without success. The organiers were seriously thinking about sending out search parties when he eventually appeared at the finish.

A member of our club lost it down the portsloo when he went to the toilet prior to running. He didn't bother to look for it

Twenty mins from the finish of the Lamm Elite with a comfortable margine we scrambled out of a 10m deep stream gorge to the penultimate checkpoint and my partner discovers he has lost the SI Card. Total dispair! He swears he had it before the gorge and we have a frantic 5 minute shearch before finding it burried in the moss on the far side of the gorge. Elation! 20 minutes later having been aplauded over the line we discover at download that I have managed to miss out a checkpoint. Total dispair and 5 minutes serious swearing. Took a long time to stop waking up thinking about that one....
