Roger - I did almost exactly the opposite of you! On the way to our 1st control I noticed from the map that the 2nd was on an uncrossable feature. I looked immediately for the conrner qualification and twigged exactly where the control was.

Exactly. When I first started urban orienteering, I was told by a much more experienced international that you look at the location column first, then the features, and only finally at the number (and, indeed, they often didn't look at the last until leaving the control): the opposite to what a lot of competitors do in terrain. It has held me in very good stead ever since. The only times I have been caught out have been when I haven't followed this list of priorities (sadly, more often than I should have!).

As I suggested in an early post, why not ask a few people, who haven't been to the sites where they would go to find your markers, before you finalise your descriptions. In other words, to some degree simulate a race situation. I'm going to, in future, if I have any doubt at all, and maybe even if I don't.

But when your planning you don't alway appreciate how some people read things, There have been a number of times when I have not seen something supposedly obvious. So why would you ask someone to look at the descriptions if you feel there isn't an issue? Unless your over worrying and being too cautious....and who has time for that!?!
