A similar thing happens in Kent. POC's set up by DFOK and SAXONS in conjunction with Kent county council are occasional used by the council for "events". The council have used their own publicity budget and magazines to publicise "come and try the permanent course" days. They do it in interesting ways, one day was a "father's day challenge" and another was a "family challenge" with prizes. We've asked them to keep the local clubs informed when they do this, so someone can go along to publicise mainstream orienteering. They have also organised a corporate day for their own staff, over 100 used the POC at Shorne apparently.
So far they've used the permanent courses that are in good nick, so on balence a good thing, maybe one or two will seek out orienteering on the internet after a positive experience at these "events"?
