Personally I really like the splits printout - and I'm not the only one as evidenced by the number of people poring over them with friends/rivals after an event. Assuming it isn't raining of course, then they all scarper...
As far as splitsbrowser being an extra task - I usually try to put routegadget online at the same time as the results, even for local events. RG2 has splits and splitsbrowser graphs built in, so no extra work there.
As I already have the results file it's really easy to do winsplits, and again, personally, I find those very useful.
