However, at the Northern Champs prize giving on Sunday, as I collected my M21 trophy, someone thrust an envelope into my hand and muttered "UK Orienteering League..." To my surprise when I opened it later it had a £50 Compass Point voucher. I didn't realise they were sponsoring individual UKOL races (and I'm not sure it was in all classes either), but I'm not complaining! It was worth me sprinting on the run in....

It certainly wasn't on all classes. Bart got nothing for winning M18. Maybe just M/W21?

Congratulations to the 2014 winners. Particularly Mark Saunders who was two short of the maximum 500 points and won the overall title.

I have the usual underwhelming feeling as our 'premier' national competition comes to a climax. Not taking anything away from the winners, but there were relatively few people who completed the necessary 10 events to compete for the titles.

I know we've had this discussion before but I'd still like to see something more meaningful. I note the schedule for 2015 looks pretty much the same as 2014.

I like the fact it covers all the various disciplines but it does tend to favour the smaller events and those who are prepared to travel and/or live centrally.

Nothing south of Chester after May and only 5 / 19 south of Chester in total.
I appreciate the best events should be in the best terrain but the distribution does seem a little uneven.
Particularly surprised to see Newcastle as a "solo" event. Given the low attendance at the British in the NE this year I suggest an event in the NE should have another one nearby on the same weekend, as is the case for almost all the other events in the series.

The Newcastle race is paired with a sprint relay on the previous day. I'm not sure whether or not that will attract any more competitors.

Perhaps, but we're finding this move to ever more weekends of events less and less attractive. We are likely to go for the day to Newcastle Quays, but certainly wouldn't travel for the weekend.

But then the UKOL is not exactly a priority with British Orienteering's value destruction of it.
