The US Open v's The Open championship. It doesnt need the "British" suffix becasue it was first!
It wouldn't even be a prefix.

It doesn't matter what it's officially called. If you read any American media, you'll see that they do need to use British Open there, because otherwise their readership/audience wouldn't know what they were talking about.
Even in this country, as Kitch points out 'orienteering' already refers to the whole lot, 'The Open' doesn't, so to use it to describe one particular form amongst others just wouldn't (and doesn't) work.

If BOF have their way our Championship won't even be Open.

Lack of space in Focus means that everything I wrote in my article about the JK will not be published. It would be unprofessional of the Professional Officer to say any more.
You mean it was censored?

Sorry on holiday so a bit behind. Given what has been said, the fund of expertise in Scotland and the fact that we now know that the BOF insurance bill is only approx £16000 a year - I really don't understand why the SOA don't declare UDI and go it alone. If I was Scottish that's what I'd be advocating

Mrs H - perhaps Scotland will vote for independence in 2014 and then the separation shall come to pass!

Re: CompassSport editorial
OK. Finally, my copy of CompassSport has arrived - thanks, Nick, for arranging that. Now I can see what all the discussion is about.
The photo of Martina Zverinova reminded me of the time I lost my SI Card . . . .

I needed a pits top on the way to the start of a major event. On arrival at the SI Card check I presented a naked finger to the startled official. Having been turned away, I inspected my clothing and discovered my error. I now secure my SI Card with a string - to my finger.

While you're waiting, you could make yourself useful and find out what's going on with WMOC 2013<spoiler alert> Nick suggests that there are some doubts about it
The carrier pidgeon still presumably struggling aginst head winds

Latest in Azimut (the Focus equivalent over here) is that all is now back on track for WMOC 2013 after the move from Puglia to Piemonte and all the problems reported were the IOF Commission's fault not FISO (BOF equivalent). That's their story and they are sticking to it. More doubt about WOC2014 date than WMOC as far as FISO are concerned.
There was apparantly a flyer of some sort put out at EOC, which was not authorised by FISO, that may have scared the horses. WMOC 2013 is of course a long long way ahead in Italian thinking:
the trouble with you British is you worry too much

PS just ran on two of the maps that abut the WOC2014 terrain - top orienteering area methinks!
hop fat boy, hop!

Re: CompassSport editorial
Yes I noticed that clash already (or Roomongous pointed it out to be 100% accurate), I will keep my eyes open in case things change and post on Nopesport if they do.
You always have to bear in mind things are a bit different here. For example on Friday I went to the web site to look up my start time for Saturday's Italian Sprint Champs and found the following message:
Due to the large number of late entries the start list will be published in the morning - first starts from 1000!

Re: CompassSport editorial
Just to put the record straight, the IOF Foot-O Commission (responsible for WMOC) has not been involved in any of the political issues regarding WMOC 2013.all the problems reported were the IOF Commission's fault
This page is out of date with respect to at least some of its content. It does say "exact dates to be confirmed" too.unfortunately the IOF page suggests a potential overlap with Moray 2013
I am told that official confirmation of WMOC 2013 is due soon.
