I think the 2013 final is scheduled for July 7th at Grantham - it will be interesting to see how that works with qualifiers and the like.

Re: YBT final 2011
given the Peter palmer in September, a first round in winter term before exam fever ( and when reasonably local travel makes sense) and a final still in term time but after exams are over (like planned for next season) seems to make sense, although I can see that some older team members may be missing at the final.

Can't see any runners at all from HOC, POW or SN on the start list

Did all three clubs just decide not to send anybody to the final?

These 3 clubs have either decided not to attend or cannot raise a team.

SN could not raise a full complement of runners (i.e. a minimum of 9).

Similar from HOC. We did try very hard - honest - but lost too many of the original "yesses" to be able to make a team.

Re: YBT final 2011
It looks like it will be a lot closer this year as OD numbers seem to be down and are eclipsed by LOC's amazing 46 runners. Of course only 9 actually count but what a great number of juniors. Other clubs appear to show the early results of junior development by having a lot of yellow/orange runners.
Anyone like to predict the result?
I'll stick my neck out and say OD first (winning for a record 5th year in a row), LOC very close behind with SYO a few points down in 3rd just a whisker ahead of a number of other clubs.
On another note, if a club qualifies but then decides not to attend the final, should there be a final date to decide this by after which the place is awarded to the 2nd placed club from that heat?

Like this idea
That would give a different club the chance to take part and would also reward the efforts of the organisers by have a full starting line up.
Having 3 qualifying clubs missing this year is a crying shame ~ good luck to all the other teams.

It certainly makes it more difficult to balance the books.
I would certainly support the idea of 2nd place teams being notified should their regional qualifier decide (or cannot raise a team) not to attend.
However, the qualifiers would need to be a little more in advance than they were this year, Welsh and one of the Sothern rounds only being decided the weekend before last.

Re: YBT final 2011
HOC had a full team (just) until the afternoon of Sat 26 Nov.
On Sun 27 Nov I spoke personally to a relevant person from the next club in the qualification round to offer our apologies....
Echo the sentiment that a bigger gap between qualifier and final would be advantageous.

Re: YBT final 2011
There was no second team in the SCOA round, only SN entered!
We also tried very hard but with only 2 weeks between qualifying and final (SCOA round was 20th Nov), many team members had other committments!

I'm going for LOC (I might be biased though), as winners of the Peter Palmer Relay and the juniors being a major reason for us finishing, a club best of, 3rd at the CSC.

Re: YBT final 2011
Does anyone know whether the YBT Final is exempt from BO levy as a Junior event?
I seem to recall Junior events beng exempt.

Dean,
I've had time to do some digging to find the answer now. It was at the 2010 AGM where this was debated, and the outcome was:
- no junior events are levy free
- juniors count 1:3 when determining the number of participants
- the levy rates and change points were set (65 people free, then £2.15 each, up to 210 people)
So with about 210 juniors at YBT final, they'd count as 70 participants, and you'd pay about £10 levy. Almost free!
Hope it goes well (and good luck SYO junior team
