I also suggested an idea that clubs qualify for the Final via their Association Leagues to give the Leagues more local incentive, increase participation etc.

Just to add some balance here.
I'm not sure what problem you're trying to fix. The CSC has evolved a lot over the years, its now possible to raise a team even if your small club doesnt happen to have any 15-16 year-old girls or female pensioners. The difficulty of getting a full strength team to travel to another country isn't going to go away.
I'm not a great fan of the CSC, and my club is unlikely to send a full strength team at a months notice. But none of the suggestions above would make any difference to that, and I do believe that for this type of competition, it is about as good as it could be.

Re: Compass Sport Cup
Should we not just have a Scottish club championships?
Maybe a CSC style individual on Saturday and then a 25 manna style relay on Sunday. (And I mean 25 manna style with leg restrictions, not 11-man where clubs (FVO) try and get 11 M21-45's out)

We do. The fact you don't know that probalbly answers the "should we" question...

Pretty much agree with Graeme on this one. Not sure it'll ever be my favourite event (at least not while it forces me to run brown!) but it does what it sets out to do reqasonably well - and assuming there remains a demand I dont see any great need to change it. Am currently getting in some endurance training for the final.....

I'd have to check with the FVO fixture's secretary (my wife) but I think we have 25 M21-45's in the club!!!

Re: Compass Sport Cup
It's managed to remain off my radar for 6 years... maybe because EUOC isn't allowed to be a member of the SOA and so technically I couldn't compete at it as I'm not an SOA member. Which is interesting, because I'm not a member of any region technically then???

that's interesting - why not?
Presumably that means you don't have to pay an event levy to the SOA when you put on the city race.

Re: Compass Sport Cup
There's been quite a bit of talk on this thread about making a weekend out of the CompassSport Cup Final
I have heard that BOF is aiming at a UK Cup Final/UK Relay league Final on 8/9 Oct 2011 (if it can persuade anyone to put it on)
That's the weekend before the CSC Final
2 big weekends in a row does not sound too clever
Anyone thought of combining them?

... however ...
It does still have this one stupid rule limiting the number of counters on each course (plus a crippling penalty for not having a full team), and this now biting us. Several of our club won't give up a full weekend to run in an incomplete team which has no hope. I think that's fair enough. We could field a full team, and a pretty good one too. All we have to do is put one of our 11 year old orange runners out on his first ever light green.
What would you do?
Does it make sense that the rules put small clubs in this position?

Re: Compass Sport Cup
I'd have thought he'd cope with light green if it's a parkish area like Sutton Park was the year we went. If it's dense forest it might be a bit daunting.
You could take him practising round our new permanent courses at the Hermitage and Kinnoull.

Re: Compass Sport Cup
Yes I see Graeme's point. Typical small clubs round my way have maybe one or two families that are keen enough to travel to CSC events, which is potentially a lot of pressure for juniors - and might be offputting to be put in that position. Captains can juggle the adults between courses to help inexperienced adults.
