don't doubt you Scott but interested in how you formed that impression - there were some complete novices at OMM - maybe they exagerated their experience on the entry form

Thinking about it, it may be mostly down to the personal emails that competitors on the longer classes at the Saunders received from the controller asking about experience (in more depth than we had already put on the entry form). And I think that both the OMM and Mountain Trial entry forms asked more "experience" questions than they had in previous years (although I might well be wrong on that).

That said, there were indeed plenty of people at the OMM with zero MM, fell-running or long-distance experience - including my partner . I'd be interested to know how thoroughly they do check the entry forms - it would be a nightmare job.

I believe it's fine for one member of the team to be a novice provided the other has adequate experience - it's a team game and you are expected to look after your partner.

I have just received a thorough telling-off, and I should clarify that the missus had done one OMM before this year . Still, I reckon that a strong hillwalking background would actually be the most useful/relevant experience to have at a MM from a purely safety perspective.

I wonder whether the main function of the experience questions is in forcing people to actually consider for themselves whether they are up to it, and maybe in deterring those who aren't from entering at all.

The roads may be fine - but I doubt that any fields used for event parking will be usable yet... nor the minor roads often used to get to them

Not a problem for Sheepleas on Sunday, although the "ice rink" from the bus
drop off to the start may present a challenge to some.
(The locals have been using the lane for sledging down over the past week. )

Entering my first KIMM I had zero hill running/ MM experience and as we wished to run the A we entered Elite assuming they'd dock us a class. No such thing as we were cheerfully accepted for E.

Quite unlike my first British OC where I entered A (no elite then) expecting to be put on the B. However they put me in the C

There may be one or two others on this thread, Mharky - personally I'm still waiting for a convenient event which isn't cancelled and turning up with my skis (though forecasts suggest snow will be disappearing on Saturday).

Hopes of an expedition to the January sales were raised yesterday by a slight thaw but another 4 inches over night has dashed them.....and it's still snowing!

Mr H has blasted out to work in a 4x4 but I'm snowed in with 2 teenage girls and the remains of the Christmas cake........

The black ice has us in it's grip today! Mum skiied down the main road on her shoes and promptly decided work wasn't going to happen, the buses have been cancelled throughput West Yorkshire and I somehow have to get to Edinburgh in a few hours time! Eep!

Well, no sign that tommorrow's Kent Night Cup is going to be cancelled. Should be about 8 inches of snow to run in, plus the inch or so we've had this morning.

All I need now is tommorrow's parents evening to be cancelled so I can actually go.....
