We are aware that at CHIGs recent Broxbourne regional event, there are no rankings for Black and Brown at present as there were not enough BOF numbers in the results to calculate results. We are investigating whether EOD entry forms included BOF numbers that were not entered onto OE2003 and if this is the case we will resubmit the results for these courses.
If however BOF numbers were not included on EOD forms (lots of SLOW members did EOD for some reason and a couple of SLOW members entering on Fabian4 did also not supply BOF numbers) there may be not much we can do unless those members or a representative of clubs notifies us of the BOF numbers for those competitors.
Will update further when our investigation is completed.

Alan,
Beware that the BOF system has a time period after which submission of results won't generate ranking points. You may therefore be at risk of wiping out everyone's ranking points if you resubmit after that time period! (a new upload overwrites the previous one).
Your results manager should have a copy of the BOF database within their results computing system, from which you can find runners' BOF numbers. It's a nuisance to have to go back and insert these afterwards, but worth doing so, in order to get the Brown and Black courses ranked, as clearly there were enough BOF finishers on both those courses at your event.

well thats a great system isn't it - you can't update to correct errors without the risk of destroying the whole points from that event. Who wrote this ranking system software and why is not being improved?

That's not what I said Jon. Of course you can update to correct errors

I can confirm that the CHIG EOD form does not have a space for the BOF Number
(or at least the form given out at Broxbourne did not), hence the reason that there
are no ranking points allocated to ANY EOD runners at the event. This makes the ranking points allocated to pre-entries a bit of a nonsense as none of the EOD competitors previous scores have been used to calculate the results and there were quite a few on courses down to Green.

Was this an oversight ? Perhaps it was an intentional decision to encourage folk to pre-enter
?

We've now reviewed the entry forms and only 3 EOD competitors provided BOF numbers - thus negating the benefit of resubmitting the results file.
As i mentioned on another thread, our last committee meeting carefully reviewed the feedback provided through our online feedback form for the event and we have highlighted amendments or additions to our event organisers manual and other event-related documentation (including the EOD form) so that things are improved for next time.

Re: Results and Rankings.
Surley even if only 3 individuals have contacted you to provide their details and if any of those individuals were entered on the Black or the brown, both of which only require 1 or 2 individuals to mean its a 'scoring' course. The 'benefit' of resubmitting the results is those individuals who chose to attend your event as oppossed to attending one of the alternatives available will be rewarded with receiving ranking points?

Alan, good news that you are changing things for an improved process next time as that will make the results submission easier for your next event. But I hope your post doesn't imply that CHIG aren't going to make the effort to insert these BOF numbers for this event via the (not especially onerous) process Spookster outlines. The Black/Brown runners who paid to pre-enter a ranking event surely shouldn't be deprived of any ranking points just because there was no process in place on the day to get the BOF numbers from the EOD competitors.
In the end it is the organising club's choice whether it gets the BOF numbers the easy way (ask people) or the slightly less easy way (look them up afterwards) - not sure the third option (downgrade some courses from being being ranking courses) is much cop!
To be honest when I have organised events or done results, there are enough start lists still on the web from other events that if you don't have the database immediately available, Mr Google can find most missing BOF numbers pretty quickly anyway

As a starter for ten then 30secs with google gives this for the SLOW people on Brown, should immediately give you enough BOF numbers for that course to be ranked http://www.cix.co.uk/~neper/csc08/clubs.htm#slow
Why did I do that...

Re: Results and Rankings.
The quickest way I know of getting BOF numbers is enabled by my club fixtures secretary status. I'd log on at the BOF website and select one of my clubs events in the distant future. Then pretend that each person I want to know the number of is the organiser of that event, and use the search facility and their surname

Re: Results and Rankings.
Alan,
After a bit of Excel vlookup wizardry, here are your results with the BOF numbers of all known BOF members* added. I would have attached it, but the forum doesn't like CSV or TXT files. Copy this into a spreadsheet to make it easier to read, then just edit your CSV to add them in, then re-upload it.

*not including members joined since 24 Jan 2010. Also I had to guess which of the three Peter Martins was at your event. I discounted MAROC, and decided it was probably the one from SAX, not the one from MV.

Alan, I was going to send you the BOF numbers of all the SLOW members at Broxbourne, but Spookster has now provided most of them. A couple that are missing from his list are - black Dmitry Adamskiy 212307; brown Bryn Monnery 402689.

I don't understand why that would be a problem, assuming that the system does the recalculations automatically. At any rate, the cut-off seems too short if CHIG are in danger of missing it for an event only 3 weeks ago.

That's quite right the way things are, but would it be so bad if the ranking points were calculated in the order that the results were uploaded rather than the order the events took place? I realise that the answer could be different, but an advantage of that approach (apart from not having to recalculate) is that once you saw your ranking points for a given event, they wouldn't change unless that event's data was updated. Of course, the aim should always be to upload within a week of the event (in which case, midweek events excluded, there would rarely be any change from the present), but at least it wouldn't impose the same penalty on lateness as at present.

Re: Results and Rankings.
Why doesn't the software that calculates the results have access to databases of Name, Club, BO number, SI number, Emit number and use these to fill in the missing details?
I'm sure 2 out of the above 5 should suffice in almost all circumstances.
Then we would just have to upload results, and the ranking points would automatically appear.
