How accurate is the information on the list?

the car park shown on the BOF list for tomorrow's Ivor Noot Memorial event is no where near the true carpark (GR068296)

Well, it will only be as accurate as the information that the clubs put on the event registration forms. Given that GR 068 296 also appears in the final details, I'd say that it's probably not the list's fault

But presumably when club fixtures secretaries are given access over the next couple of weeks it will become much easier for any inaccuracies to be updated - a definite improvement on the old list.

Re the EPOC event - I have updated the Gride Reference and Post Code to the junction of the A629 and the entrance to Ogden Water.
Please can I draw you attention to the last para of the posting re the new system on the BOF web site.

" Any event errors in the fixtures list should be forwarded to the Club Fixture Secretary for forwarding to their Association Fixture Secretary who will be able to update the new system with the correct information"

The car park was never shown at Ogden Water even on the preliminary flyer!
The latest amendment is still wrong - that car park is for members of the public only and we've specifically asked orienteers not to go there!

You can't blame Peter for that.... he's trying to help.... looks like someone in EPOC put the wrong info down somewhere.... either that or the new system randomly changes the info input

Or shall I change it to the one off your web site on your fixtures list SE062308 which is the middle of Ogden Water?
Seriously - I will change it to GR 070 297 which is not much use, SE070297 is more helpful, which you have indicated as a point from which the car park will be signposted. The one on the old fixture list was also centred on Ogden Water. Did you ever check that list?

I've been using some running websites to advertise our events, some (Running Diary I think) has a function where you put in the postcode/town, or as much as you have (which gets round the field in the middle of nowhere has no postcode dilemma). Then it shows you a map that has a pin you can pull to the correct location. Result is a map people can print off easily. Could this be built into the list?

I think the message regarding accuracy of the data must be ~ give the club fixtures secretaries a little time.

My own regions clubs only gained access to the on-line updating facility yesterday afternoon ( whilst most were still at work). I believe we were one of the first regions to be given this access ~ some clubs cannot use the update facilities yet.

One of the first jobs club fixture secretaries will be doing is checking out their own club fixtures to ensure that what is there is correct and what is still to be added is completed ( if information is known).

Fields like postcodes are a bit of a challenge ~ we haven't used them quite the same way before.

We have always tended to use grid references to locate an event car park. The "affluent" apparently like to use a post code and input it to their Tom Tom.

The full post code was not derived automatically when the data was transferred across to the new database ~ The 4 character short code was derived from the map reference stored on BO map database. This may or not be the GR contained in the ER1 which registered the event on the old system. Club fixture secretaries will need to find out the full accurate code for themselves. There are GR reference to Post code converters. This exercise will however take a little time so be patient.

A useful discussion regarding the construction of links from our web pages. East Anglia has gone for 65 miles from CB8.

We are still planning to utilies Ollie's UK map facilitity as the prime way to find an event. A map is a far better way, in my opinion, to identify what is available.

OK - I changed it Saturday evening after your post. Sheet letters also required. (SE)
Very soooooon your club will be able to access the on line system so EPOC will then be responsible for keeping their fixture data up to date. EAOA and NWOA are now live and more Associations will come live on the on line system this week.

I think BOF should definitely look into have some sort of map based fixtures list as well. Having the nearest down does make it a lot better, but with a map you can see lots of races at once rather than having to scroll down.

I had problems when I lived in Sweden, I would go on the fixtures list and find loads of good races, but I would have absolutely no idea where they were going to be!

...not quite yet. It's still running off the old one which is still available and (at the moment) still being updated.

Some dev work will need to be done to get it working with the new one - I only saw the new list the same time everybody else did.

People new to the sport will probably go to the BOF website, not that of Angry Haggis, which is why I said BOF should have a map based fixtures list...
