where did she go ?
given that she was a medal hope in today's 200m breaststroke I was expecting at least to hear where she was in the final - but she wasn't there and I haven't heard a squeak all week either in round 1 on Wednesday or semis yesterday.
again as a medal hope I'd have expected to hear where it went wrong ....?

Olympics day five as it happened 1254: Kirsty Balfour finished joint 20th in the 200m breastroke so, as feared, she has missed out on the semi-finals.

I guess it was top 16 to the semis.

1634: Bit of controversy here from Kate Reed, who came 23rd in that 10,000m. She tells BBC Sport: "I've been having troubles with my fitness and pain in my calf - at one point I had my flight home booked - but I was all set to race and then last night the team booked a time trial for me to test my fitness! I don't understand why they made me do it, I'm new to international athletics so I just gritted my teeth and got on with it, but it took so much out of me and today there was nothing in my legs."

seems a bit crazy to ask someone to run a 10k time trial the night before a 10k race...

hopefully they won't make a certain marathon runner do the same

I wouldn't naturally assume it was a 10000m time trial, in fact I would be amazed if it was. She certainly didn't seem very pleased to have her preparation so needlessly disrupted and I can understand why.

I thought the team sprint team had blowen it with a lap to go. Hoy was so far off the wheel he effectivly did the final lap and a half by himself. He did look a bit done in at the finish though, but not as bad as Larsen in the indevidual TT the other day.

The Kate Reed thing seams very strange, I would like to hear some more details.

Rowing is amazing - utter exhaustion presumably because it uses the whole body, some fantastic finishes. But the men's pairs - top 6 in the World, yet 4th is way behind and 6th seemed forever. I guess it has something to do with it being a low participation sport.
