I didn't want to say anything at the time and I have no idea if these were Aidan's actual words or if he has been quoted out of place, but what a strange thing to say/think.
By its nature, orienteering is a solo sport and you can only control your own performance. Aidan's 19th place today was excellent, but he can't control the speed or technical performance of his competitors, so why claim to 'know how to beat them technically'. Impossible! I'm all for having self confidence, but concentrate on your own performance and not the performance of others - it's something you have no influence over.
There were 14 Scandinavians ahead of Aidan today. Nothing to be ashamed of. A top 20 performance at a World Championships in Norwegian terrain is superb.

Re: JWOC
Oli Ojahana (Fin) just hangs on to take the Gold with Erik Anderson(Swe) the Silver and Hellmuller (Sui) bronze. So the Norwegians miss out - they won't be happy!
Aidan ends up in 19th place. Knowing Aidan he won't be satisfied with that and will be looking to improve in his favourite discipline - the Long. Not too scabby though running against the Scandies in their own back yard, and with twice as many runners from each country as WOC.
Sasha recovered from a big miss early on to finish a creditable 45th and more experience in the bag.
Sarah had a good start but looks like she lost time later on. 20th at the moment but with 15 more to finish.

My observations not Aidan's words.

Re: JWOC
Good work from the B finalists today and all have returned to the camp happier with their performances. Confidence levels are restored and they're feeling positive about the Long in two days time.
In the A final, Sasha lost his bib at 2 and this distraction led to the miss at 3. He recovered well towards the end, but is understandably frustrated! Aidan's top 20 was commendable against the home Scandis and he's now looking forward to his favourite discipline. Sarah was content, having improved technically in the final, and is in good shape for the end of the week's relays

Major miss for Simona Aebersold (Sprint gold medallist) at no. 4 - in last place at the first time check over 7 mins down.
BTW does anyone know how they sort out the start lists for the Long - is it based on performances in the Middle?

Re: JWOC
IMO the qualifiers were exceptionally technical, the analysis of the qualifiers by country make interesting reading.

3 start blocks: early, middle, late
2 athletes from each nation in each block, you must have 1 athlete in each block before you can add a second athlete to a block.
At last year's JWOC there was some discussion about using the middle results for cutting down the number of starters, however this was rejected by the coaches.

Live results from long distance now running at http://www.liveresultater.no/livesider/ ... en_EN#x142
Such big numbers that it's going to be mid-afternoon before everyone's finished. Aidan and Megan carrying GPS.
Any updates from the team recently apart from what's on British orienteering website?
