I rather thought that was the purpose of a crossing marshall. A dumb box doesn't ensure you cross safely.

No but having the knowledge that your time will be excluded and a DQ if you fail to comply will

No it's not alright to miss out a control even if you didn't have to navigate to it and you didn't gain any advantage (or you suffered a disadvantage) as a result of doing so. The control was presumably on the map and your control descriptions so why would it be alright to miss it out?

Quite right, Mrs H and others. As Freefall so kindly pointed out, I missed the second control of the first timed crossing on my course. The reason was that having caught up with a couple of runners also doing my cause, and just as the crossing turned green for us,I thought I was in with a chance of dropping them, and that rather took over my thinking. I certainly did gain a (temporary) advantage over them and ignoring that missed control in the results would probably have meant I had a miniscule amount of time not deducted for a much larger gain in not stopping to punch. I certainly fully agreed with the mp designation - any chagrin was at myself.

Me too. I did exactly the same. Rushed away to get away from other competitors. The amount I gained probably equalled timed out portion of my run. I did not expect to get reinstated. I went diagonally across the road as there was no traffic. What a numpty!
