OK, we had the meeting but looks like we (CCR and ASD Orsa Maggiore) will be holding a 3 day event in Rome 1,2,3 Nov 2013. It will be possible to enter an individual day as well as the 3 race package. Please note Fri 1 Nov is a bank holiday here!

Details still being worked out as to which areas we will use but there will be a mixture Urban and Park Orienteerng - as you may imagine (based on the WMOC med cert burocrazia) obtaning permissions will be challenging here and may affect the ultimate choice of Areas. For instance I would like to have the Sunday race in the area around Roma Antica and use Circus Maximus as the Arena for start finish and spectator controls but that may prove to be difficult. What I can say is we will definitely use Pincio/Villa Borghese/Piazza Del Popolo for one of the events with Parco Villa Doria Pamphli, Lotta di Garbatella, Piazza Navona, Colosseo/Roma Antica among the possibles for other areas.

For those of you missing your Autumn Italian Orienteering fix, please stick the dates in the diary - more information to follow as things mature. This is going to be a one off in 2013 as there is no Venice, so don't miss out!

UK Half-term and Italian BH was one of the reasons we chose the date - yes there will be junior courses planned on all days.

As promised an update for the Not Venice 2013:

ASD Orsa Maggiore and CC Roma Orienteering Club Committees met last night to formalise the agreement to run a 3 day orienteering competition, which will be called Rome Orienteering Meeting 2013 (ROMe 2013). Most key officials have now been appointed.

ROMe 2013 is intended to be a one-off Meeting given the lack of MO Venice 2013.

Outline Plan:

Fri 1 Nov - a night orienteering event in the beautiful parks and gardens of Villa Borgese with an Assembley Area over looking Piazza del Popolo and the whole of Rome. Planner is one of Italy's most experienced orienteers Manu Manganelli.

Sat 2 Nov - a middle distance race in the mixed park/land woodland of Villa Ada in the North of the City, some impressive ornamental lakes on this map too. The middle race Planner will be former pop singer, Stefano Zarfati, who planned all 3 days of MOC 2012 and who will be controlling at WMOC Sestrierre. Aim for the Saturday is to leave you with the PM for sightseeing.

Sun 3 Nov - a morning sprint race in Rome's unmatchable historic Centre that will take place on a map that includes Circo Massimo, the Coloseum and the Tiburtine Island. Planner will be yours truly and Stefano Z is already off seeking permissions to get you into as many places as we can.

An event website should follow soon and watch out for fliers in English at JK.

The Clubs will aim to use a commercial provider with online booking facility for accommodation for those interested. All events will be accessable by public transport.

And the good news for those of you who worry about entry fees - as we missed the deadline to register the events as an international or national event it will have to be registered as a regional event, which is likely to mean a maximum entry fee of 7 Euro / per day!

An opportunity for 3 events like these and at this price level is not to be missed. Moreover, we will use SI not EMIT for you EMIT haters too. Can it get any better

How far is it from Sunday to the main airport in Rome? And what's Rome like for getting through security etc... any fast track for 'I fly lots cards' etc ???

Might come but need to go to Cuba on Monday so would mean going from Rome to Madrid I guess.

Hi Gross,

you can get the fast train to the airport from the Central Railway Station in 32 mins. The central railway station is 3 metro stops (5 mins) from the School we intend to use as the assembly area for day 3 (Metro is Coloseum!) only a 2 min walk to the metro. Manu teaches at the school so permission should be forthcoming!

There is indeed a fast track at the airport. That said, I have never had a problem with excessive security delays even though I always travel with the poor people.

Our aim will be to get the event finished by about lunchtime in order to give people time to fly that afternoon/early evening.
