Re: ranking list
Does anyone on the working party know what the plan is for the 18s? The bit in the explanatory notes isn't really clear. For some future events, eg the British Sprints, the seeding of runners into different heats is likely to be based on ranking points. Will first year 18s start the year with zero points or will results obtained whilst a top year 16 be used retrospectively, at the start of the year, to calculate an initial ranking position?

Re: ranking list
Good to see this and the new results archive up and running - hopefully this will mean we won't lose a whole load of results when clubs change websites any more.
Looks like the rankings will need time to settle down and for more people to run across courses to be 'meaningful' - there are some artificially high scores in there which I presume are a consequence of not enough reference points yet...

Re: ranking list
Is there anyway to see the underlying data as per the old list, or are you now constrained to merely filtering from the ranking page on BOF site? I.E. how can I see my scores other than the top 6? UK Cup? UK Masters Cup?
PS went to the pub for 2 hrs to talk about orienteering, came back and had gained 48 places - this new system has something going for it
PPS Scotia didn't last long as first number 1 Speakie now top

It seems all of the scores are listed alongside names in the relevant set of results in that new section.

I think the Board have referred this (and the issue of juniors in the rankings generally) back to Coaching Committee and JCG for further discussion.

Re: ranking list
But the Board, presumably with appropriate consulation, have approved the fact that 18s should be ranked - yet no ranking points are appearing against their names in the 2010 ranking events to date that I've looked at.
Surely we can't be seeing a U-turn within a couple of weeks of the list starting?

The working group recommended that all competitors running TD4 and TD5 courses (or the highest technical level of course available at sprint/urban races) at ranking events should score ranking points, with no exclusions based on age.
This was by far the majority view expressed in the consultation, however, it was opposed by one or two BOF Committees - apparently designating an event a British Champs or an international selection race is fine, but calculating ranking points from the results of that race might put too much pressure on our delicate youngsters

AFAIK the 18s category is supposed to fill out as they compete in 2010, but it is not intended that points will be calculated retrospectively. If 18s aren't being included in calculations then i guess you should report it via the feedback email. You'll have to ask those responsible for seedings what their plan is re 18s.

Re: ranking list
I didn't do a great deal or have a great season last year, but I was surprised to see someoneI'd not heard of listed above me in M55. Investigation shows that he runs short, and indeed one of his top 6 rankings is gained far from the top in JK short. I do not believe that this can possibly reflect reality.
I imagine that it will generally prove to have been beneficial to have run short, and would hope that over the next year these anomolies will sort themselves out. However it does occur to me that injured/unfit people quite often decide to run down - this will inevitably raise the points of those on the course that they drop to.
One assumes that generally the numbers of competitors on each course should iron this out and I have always assumed so. But, by walking round my courses at the Scottish 6 days last year was I significantly inflating everyone else's points?

Ok so 1992 born 18s have ranking points but not the 1993 ones. Perhaps the algorithm still thinks it is 2009?

Re: ranking list
What happens if you have 2 clubs such as home one and uni? What happens to points then?
Just looking at lists again and can't see how anyone can get excited by them when it looks to me that you have to run short and lots of races to get a higher ranking. I take it these lists are not used for selection purposes or people like Jon Duncan are dead in the water

You only have one BOF number, and all points allocations are done based on that number, regardless of what club you declare yourself to be in at any particular event.

Re: ranking list
Hmmm so Matt Speake got more points for winning the age group sprints than Scott Fraser did for winning the elite sprints!
And winning UK Cup final / World Champs test races doesn't seem to be very productive at all, compared to say, the Twin Peaks.... (or indeed M18L at Scottish 6 Day)

Actually he didn't, the wrong results are being linked to. He got the points for a 9.6k race (the day after the Age Class Sprints?). These results also show Jason Inman winning M20L and getting points for it. I don't know if the Age Class Sprints results are hiding somewhere under another name.
