10MILA 2006

What a top weekend! The intake of breath in the field when we watched Andersen have a bit of a wobble as Simone was catching 10 secs at every timed point, and the massive silence watching the GPS units on the screen as Gotebord creeped ahead, then Haldin gained it bad. They missed the bit where the Goteborg bloke got ahead due to an ad break though, I'd love to know what happened in those thirty secs, any ideas Didsco?
The forest was lightning quick in places and really tough in others, the area around number three on leg four where Heather mucked up was so thick and really tricky. I was lucky to only lose 3 or 4 mins there as opposed to the ten that Hev must have lost. Speakey was guarding that bunch of controls and said he'd never seen so many people run around in circles for so long!
Good to see Harry get a good few minutes of TV time on her stormer on leg three, and watching Karin come in 5th for our bunch (only for Marie to lose 100 places in the first ten mins, oops. The poor girl looked terrified!).
Every orienteer should attempt to get out there and have a go at some point. An experience like no other! What I really want to know though, is did El make it back in time for her 11am class this morning! How was Centralen at 3am?!

Totally, everyone should try and get to the Jukola and 10Mila at some point.
The Jukola (actual biggest relay in the world, despite what Swedes say) is on 17th of June, if anyone feels motivated and inspired by the 10Mila.

The live tracking is available for replay at

Looks like Haldin missed control 4 on the last loop. Great race.
You can also see Nick on Leg 4, Dan on Leg 7, and Jamie on Leg 10. Dan's battle with Wingsted is particularly good.
I had a problem with the timing during replay and had to set negative values in Time Offset field of relevant runners to view some of the races which is a pain. Anyone know how to fix this?
To oblivion and beyond....

Definitely - I'm backing up the "everyone should experience it" message. It's pretty much impossible to explain how awesome the atmosphere is. Can't wait for Jukola!
Oh and yes I made it back for my 12noon class on Tuesday. Walked through my door at 11.45am, picked up the pre-packed bag with my notes and walked out again to class. Centralen at 3am is not fun. It closes overnight. It was cold sat on the street for 2 hours. I don't recommend it.
