I hope BOF are potentially ready to reimburse the £1000 for flights I have already made to Bulgaria based on the current selections.

what is happening ...
lots of people whinged about no-full women's team
some man appealed based on failure to follow due process
this gives an excuse to reopen selections
man will get nowhere, extra women will be selected, though this has nothing to do with due process.
I win myself a coconut.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections

i don't see it any different based on everyone planning their summer after the original selections, and yes a few girls may get added but they may well have already made other arrangements or feel so dejected by the whole process they decline the offer.
BUT this has brought the whole selection policy out into the light and challenged, so hopefully stuff will change for the better next time around, better transparency, communication with athletes etc.
ask Ed Nicolas or Steve Vernon nicely ?Additionally, a review by someone not involved in selection and athlete performance could add value by ensuring the policy is clear and easily understood, as would proof-reading by an experienced proof reader.
best thing I have read on BO for a long time.Their decision and feedback will certainly help us to strengthen our selection policy and procedures and provide athletes with a more easily understood policy and procedures.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
Won't a review of JWOC selections potentially have a knock-on effect on EYOC selections?

One of the main causes of the underlying problems with the Talent Programme that have surfaced in recent selection decisions is a lack of understanding of orienteering on the part of management. How is yet another person from outside orienteering going to help?
Appeals stand and fall on technicalities, but the anger and frustration shown by the athletes and the wider orienteering community is due to consistently poor decisions (which clearly aren't in the interests of the athletes or the sport as a whole), poor communication, and a lack of respect for athletes and coaches.
Yes we can learn from other sports and independent advisers but its time that BO stopped using this as a panacea for all ills and started looking to the membership for advice. We're not all a bunch of prehistoric amateurs.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
So one must assume that BO are happy with the selections for EYOC, even though they would have used the same criteria as JWOC
Homer: I also asked this, above, but maybe as there was no appeal made on EYOC they will be overlooked from a review?

My point was what happens if someone presently selected for EYOC now gets selected for JWOC? I don't think they'll do both, so does that mean an incomplete EYOC team?

Ditto Buzz.
I don't see many complaints about how JROS lay down or instigate their selection criteria!

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
We need someone with years of experience of junior orienteering, jwoc, jwoc medals, coaching at elite level etc, currently independent of junior orienteering, commands the respect of elite orienteers etc. Can't think of anyone that fits the bill...

100% agree, and, as you imply, extends beyond coaching.

this, can't see them de-selecting any of the men and hopefully they've seen their error and will at least take someone who has proven ability who can run JWOC and back up the relay.
