Have all the long courses you want then offer any one that doesnt want to compete in those a 8km, 6km and a 4km option then competitors can choose a course to suit, Easily and quickly

Is not all he seems

Agree entirely Mike. But what's inclusive? My view is that the emphasis on multifarious courses and classes over recent years leading to diminished competition has been one factor in our decline. You may have more 'winners', but that also means more of the opposite too. I certainly got turned off the sport (at least at bigger events) for some time, and have really only got back into it with the growth of limited courses/classes such as those at urban events, or the lamented late British Elite Sprints. On that front, I agree with seabird entirely and, to a lesser extent, lucy.

I agree with Lucy, Awk, and a few others. There are too many pointless classes. The subject of a new thread maybe?
I've recently had to stop 'proper' running due to a medical condition and instead of a hard run on a long course I now do a gentle trot on my short class. I get no satisfaction at all coming 2nd or 3rd on M50S when I know full well that just about everyone on M50L would have beaten me had they run the same course. I get more satisfaction coming in the top third of the results in our local Saturday league with everyone in the club, juniors and all, competing on the same course.
Like Awk, I think that fewer classes is one of the appealing factors of urban races.

The three remaining Orienteers in our household have/ are losing interest in the sport. Can't pin point the reason beyond volunteer fatigue. We now don't travel and don't compete where we are involved in the organisation. Feel jaded with O. This is O dear I know but haven't run a day event since xmas, not going to JK or Scottish. Will do British but if that is as bad as CSC last year then I fear we will become club orienteers who only bother with local leagues.

Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

I'm sorry to hear you're not going to S6D - I think it's going to be a vintage year and we will have a lot of fun

If the Scottish 6 Days was a film I'd use that as a quote on the poster.

I'm looking forward to my first 6 Day having caught the multi-day bug at Lakes 5(4!) last year.
