It is right to highlight that EOC2014 has been woefully organised, particularly if viewed from the outside
BUT Lets commend an outstanding performance by the British Squad, with Three podium finishes, including a medal; with so many of our squad performing well beyond their and our expectations. WELL DONE GB and the staff supporting them.

Not really - it has been in the rules for some years. At EOC/ETOC a nation may enter 2 teams but only the top one counts.

Judith Wyder (assuming it's her on last leg for Swiss 1) is in amazing form at the moment, assuming all goes well for the rest of her run that'll be 3 golds this week.

Judith made up for her messing up of Simone's chance of a clean sweep of medals in 2012 in Falun; Simone ran the short leg and handed over to Judith with a big lead - she messed up no.1 and ended up out of the medals. This must have preyed on her mind this year and so this made the win even more special.

As I understand it the Swiss women's team have now done something neither Simone nor Vroni ever did - win Gold in the EOC Relay. With her 3 golds Judith "only" has something like 7 more to catch Simone in EOC golds ... but a long way to go for WOC golds.

In other sports, like cross-country skiing or biathlon, many of the organizing services are provided and overlooked by the international federations. IT-heavy services like timing, live broadcasting and other TV-coverage related services are much more standardized. In orienteering organizers are left to themselves to create own systems. It is no wonder we see so many failures when new people have to learn and invent these things again and again.

Has no one ever asked these questions before?
I'm guessing they have ( if not, why not) so why are we still where we are?

IOF is moving in the direction of providing core services for event organisers. IT is one example, and TV is another.
