A quick look at the MDOC site describes where most members live and it isn't Manchester.

We are one of the larger orienteering clubs in the North West covering mostly the central and southern parts of Greater Manchester together with adjacent areas of East Cheshire and High Peak.

Well done, you found it. Manchester, the area from which we all accept people should not travel to Scotland, is just one part of Greater Manchester. You don't know, but I do know where members live and there are few in Manchester. And even fewer likely to be jostling for a podium position. So your scenario is a non issue.

And for all people from ANY of the affected areas, you may be getting contacted by your accommodation owner, cancelling the booking, probably closer to the date you plan to go as things may change again.

A work colleague from Salford was due to go to Mull today and had their booking cancelled on Tuesday. Don't know if this was the booking agent acting alone or on instruction from authorities.

Ahhhh.... DM... you miss the point completely... you know Manchester is part of Greater Manchester... I know Greater Manchester includes parts outwith Manchester but Joe Bloggs general public reads or here the news that travel to Manchester is banned and they don't know / care if it's Greater Manchester or not (same applies to any other area & not getting at Manchester) and think 'what the hell are these people doing coming from a Manchester club.

It is the perceived view of Joe Bloggs public that will impact on orienteering's reputation...

For ref not only accommodation providers cancelling booking from banned areas but tour operators are cancelling holidays.

So what do you want people to do? Cancel their entries when they don't need to because they are not breaking any rules or even guidelines?

You seem to know about Manchester/Greater Manchester so why don't other Joe Bloggs? Some will, some won't.

Bolton is SELOC, just shows that he is unaware of the location each club covers, whilst throwing MDOC under the bus, because it starts with 'Manchester'.

I'd suggest you read my post properly. I am very aware of where clubs are.

There is a well known saying concerning the continued use of spades by people below ground level.

While you are probably now aware of the broad areas covered by clubs in NW England and you are probably now also aware of local government structures and you are probably now aware of the actual districts to and from which travel to Scotland is prohibited - this was clearly not the case when you posted the claim that "Scottish government rules are followed e.g. MDOC are not allowed entry to Scotland."

I never quoted 'SELOC' as the general public is not very likely to associate that with Bolton but MDOC is easily associated with Manchester.

The general public is highly unlikely to discern anything at all from either of those sets of initials even in the unlikely event that they did look at the results. But if they did they would discover that the SEL stands for South East Lancashire. And if they are thinking about traditional counties rather than strict current metropolitan local authority boundaries then Blackburn, Bolton, Salford and Manchester are all within the southeastern part of Lancashire (even though Blackburn is in PFO territory). Certainly you will find the residents of Bolton identify themselves as in Lancashire in the same way as residents of Stockport will of Cheshire. Or if they were thinking of physical geography they might notice that Blackburn is south of the Ribble - and not realise that SROC mostly covers the area north of the river.

Of course Deeside members would be free of suspicion - since any members of the Scottish general public will be thinking of a different river Dee.

Why do the levels of various areas of Scotland appear to be unconnected to the case rates?

Are people from Dundee and East Lothian allowed to travel to England now that their case rates are higher than Manchester and Salford?

My friends and family tell me that I shouldn't expect logic when looking at the rules and guidelines caused by Covid.

Why? - Because the rules were last set over a week ago and took account of the spread of infection in the period before that. The situation in Scotland now looks to be every bit as serious as NW England so I think it is doubtful whether the rules will be relaxed in time for the S6D. On the other hand, south of the border it look like the government is determined to open up everything on 19th July irrespective of the circumstances.

'Irrespective of the circumstances' is a bit ott. There are 'circumstances' in not opening things up I would suggest. Manchester travel ban now lifted anyway!

Thanks for all your work in keeping the event alive. I was amused by this line in the allocations statement: "If you are slighty unhappy - please live with it and recognise the difficulties in carrying out a fair allocation". I would say I was more than "slightly unhappy" with getting Group A, but will live with it even so. Them's the breaks.

Thanks to S6D for allocations to the contingency S3D format, posted promptly as promised. Very happy to be doing 3 days, slightly unhappy to be in Group A, but happy to live with it, and fingers crossed for Level 0 by end of July...

Looking on the bright side Group A does miss the 3km+ walk to the start on day 6. A challenge for early starters who have to clear out of their accommodation as well!

Initially concerned when reading this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-57703084. Appears there was a general lack of understanding on daily event participation numbers for different levels of restriction, despite the guidance having been in place for quite some time.

All credit to the S6D organisers who are clearly on top of the participation numbers for the different levels

Capacity should be calculated based on ensuring 2 metre physical distancing up to a limit of 500 attendees at any one time in Level 2.

No mention of a daily limit, so I have every sympathy for them.

Hopefully the Level 0 limit of 2,000 will be in place by the time of the 6 Day.
