Re: JK2013
Well we have been sent our parking pass for day 3 and it appears that as we have a young family we are in a small parking field next to assembly. With an 8 month baby I really appreciate avoiding the buses. Thanks to the organisers.

Well said. However, this is a forum mainly used by people from Britain, who like to moan.
They also like to queue, so I'm sure they will queue for the buses, and moan about the length of the queue.
I'm really looking forward to the JK, and I'm sure the arrangements will be the best they can be to make the best of some good areas.

I completely agree - like all the JKs I've been to (I think 7 or 8 out of the last

As a fellow whinger I can block out most of the carping on here but I think there is a deeper symptom of what is actually wrong with our sport in the UK: We are scared to try more radical strategies with our sport to attract new people in case we upset the vocal whingers who will always find something to complain about anyway. And I recognise this problem because I could be part of it too!

Appreciating the efforts made by the organisers, I think they're missing a trick by not telling us where the assembly is. Surely some people would rather jog, cycle or walk from (say) Thatcham, or even Sainsburys, if they knew where they were going? And every person doing that is one less person in the bus queue.

OKn I've printed out my poarking permits and I'm trying to print out the final details but my printer says they are only two pages and both of them are blank and that is what it 'prints' - although I have the 16 page pdf on screen
Any ideas?

Personally I don't think we should worry about whinging on Nopesport too much.
The problem is more subtle IMHO but mostly to do with demographics.
Orienteering is full of heroes that have volunteered their time to create something. Leagues, competitions, clubs, associations etc over the past 40 years. Most committees at all levels are full of people like this, and such people are often influential even if not on committees.
The problem with changing things is that this inevitably involves dismantling some or all of what has been created. It's a tough thing to accept that a new generation will look at what's there now, will take the bits that they like and discard everything else. That can lead to conflict and in a voluntary organisation people don't want the hassle, so the compromise is to leave things much as they are.
Of course it's possible to create new leagues and competitions, and leave the old ones there, but I'm not sure if that's really a long term solution where numbers are declining.
Orienteering really needs new people entering the sport interested/willing in going onto committees. In this respect I think some clubs and associations could learn a few things from BOF with its fixed terms and attempts to have a wider range of people. It might not be the right model for clubs and associations, but the concepts seem reasonable.
A few years ago my club created a new local league and I was the main person designing it and setting it up. I'm not involved now and I can look back and feel I've helped to achieve something, but I hope that they won't worry about offending me if they want to completely change it or remove it completely.

I've tried saving it to the desk top and printing it from there but it just says the file is damaged and cannot be repaired

I printed the final details Ok about a week ago.
If the pdf is opening in the browser sometimes I find it does not render properly/fully, but downloading / opening with acrobat itself works OK. However this is on a pc and I am guessing you may be on your mac ?
