Re: Who will be going to WOC ?
Winners today were Jamie in about 93 mins, and Pippa in 72ish. JD and Oli completed the top 3 on the men's, Grace was second on the women's then Jenny, Sarah and Mhairi were all in the mix - can't remember the exact women's order.

You need to give some people time to get home you know - it's been a long day they were still clearing up on site long after 5pm and Brown clee is a long way from some people's houses

Re: Who will be going to WOC ?
So now after Long Race the team seems quite clear;-)
Men - Jamie, Scott, Oli, Speake, JD, GG
Women - Sarah, Pippa, Mhairi, Racheal....+maybe Lizzie (I'd pick her esp as she quite young)
Men:
Sprint: Scott, GG, Jamie
Middle: Oli, Scott, Speake
Long: Jamie, Oli, JD
Relay: GG, Scott, Jamie (In that order) - GG+Scott well rested for relay as don't run long final day before + our best chance of a medal.
Women:
Sprint: Pippa, Sarah, Lizzie
Middle: Rachael, Mhairi , + 1
Long: Pippa, Sarah
Relay: Sarah + 2 ,not Lizzie
The only shock selection I might consider is sticking Murray in the Sprint if he can show some good form over the next 2-3 weeks.......

with all respect to Murray, not a chance - 6th in the sprint selection race and not a track record of high placings in WOC/EOC/World Cups. Yes, Murray is a top performer on his day (and could/would probably do well at WOC), but he's not done enough to get in the team this time.

Re: Who will be going to WOC ?
Helen B - track record - good relay record- remember WUOC 2006
Rach in the relay
outside chances - Claire Ward, Laura Daniel, Helen Palmer, Helen Winskill = opportunities depending on what Sarah, Rachael and Pippa elect for.

Mainly retirals rather than mispunches - it was definitely a long and tough race on a pretty warm day...

Re: Who will be going to WOC ?
It is going to be very difficult, and online pundits/selector critics should really know what it was like on the ground..
In the sprint, much time was lost by some on one leg by running up a blind alley. This is fine sprint orienteering, but it doesn't really tell the selectors that the same people will do the same thing at WOC. Also, one control (12) was highly confusing. Another of these "which side of the uncrossable wall" cock-ups, this time with the uncrossable wall part-obscured by the red line, and the feature (a building) obscured by a contour (+white space) on top. No idea why they used it, the wall on the other side of the alley could give the same navigational challenge on the leg, or shift the control 20m south to bring in a third route choice on the next leg.
Notable junior performance : Rhodri lost 43 secs on those two controls, and finished 53 down. On the day he had the potential to really upset the status quo.
The middle would have been great a month ago, but the bracken had shot up. From my (middle) start it was already pretty much a scalextric course, following the groove round. No point in mapreading ahead because the trodden path was going to be fastest when you got there. It was all good clean fun, but I can't see that the selectors will learn anything from it.
The classic was indeed a long, hot way (but WOC will be longer, and may be hotter). Seemed like a real test - any fringe athlete pushing for the big result was in real danger of blowing out, either physically or technically. Lots of blunders in the vague stuff early on too (pits amid unmapped pits), which must sap the will to keep pushing.
It seems to me we discovered that Scott is close to passing Jamie as UK #1, Oli is running really well, and Jon and Jamie can really pull it out under pressure. They surely deserve to go, other can consider themselves lucky/unlucky.
(I didn't run the women's courses, so wont comment)

Re: Who will be going to WOC ?
Team's up now. Looks like they used all known form to cover some of the inadequacies of the selection races, and gone for the strongest team rather than spreading the places around - nobody who hasn't been before was really in with a shout. The only place this doesn't seem to apply is Scott in the long rather than the relay, which is our best medal chance.
Women's selections look odd - I can only assume Mhairi and Jenny don't want to go, maybe Lizzie neither?
Men
Sprint distance: Scott Fraser, Graham Gristwood and Jamie Stevenson.
Middle distance: Jon Duncan, Graham Gristwood and Oli Johnson.
Long Distance: Scott Fraser, Oli Johnson and Jamie Stevenson
Relay: Jon Duncan, Graham Gristwood and Jamie Stevenson.
Women
Sprint distance:Rachael Elder, Sarah Rollins and Pippa Whitehouse.
Middle distance: Helen Bridle, Rachael Elder and Sarah Rollins
Long distance: Helen Winskill, Sarah Rollins and Pippa Whitehouse.
Relay: Rachael Elder, Sarah Rollins and Pippa Whitehouse.

Jenny has retired from Internationals, and I recall something being said about Mhairi being unavailable to run.
Slightly surprised that JD isn't running the long which I thought was his strongest discipline and what the selection race seemed to show.
