The results do indeed suggest as you say. As I said I've never been there, and it appears the start was sorted (although you are relying on no volunteer slipping up and failing to give the necessary information). Also I had not appreciated the scale. However on the map leg 3 - 4 utterly fails to reach the criteria - it would need to be taped to the road. It may well be that the trees are very thin and that it is very obvious on the ground.
I really brought this up to draw potential official's attention to just how simple these courses need to be. I have lost count of the number of times I have been told "I was trying to make it more interesting," or words to that effect.

Re: Yvette Baker Final
Interestingly, there appears to be quite a difference in the clarity of the map on routegadget and that used by competitors on the day. The map on the day appears to have less differentiation between the colour in the southern area and a number of the lines between controls partly or almost completly obscured the indistinct paths competitors were expected to find and follow. This did lead to a number of competitors not even seeing the expected route and hence loosing time using more challenging routes. Difficult to avoid in areas with lots of indistinct paths I know but here is was complicated by indistinct terrain, so it was certainly challenging
