Gross, I am not in violent disagreement with you, but as a BOF member, I know where I'd rather see my money spent, and it isn't on hourly or even same-day coverage of the SHIs. I wonder how many spectators actually went to see the event?
As to interest of people outside orienteering - forget it! How often do you look at the wrestling results in the daily papers (if you get them abroad?!). In an ideal world, perhaps, but it certainly wouldn't be on my high priority list of work items.

Re: SHIs
I wasn't suggesting a blow by blow account of the SHI's. I was suggesting that there are people employed by BOF to promote & look after elite orienteering whether it be the SHI, the WC or the JEC. It takes little effort on anyone's work schedule to put a news item up indicating the SHI is happening.
And as a BOF member too I'd much rather see a report on the front page of the website giving news of the SHI than another news item about some other bit of PC policy about equality, child protection etc etc.

But sadly, these news items happen when staff are at work: do you work 7 days? And these other matters (perhaps more than we would all like) are necessary in the current UK legislative and social climate.

Re: SHIs
There was a Monday to Friday with 09:00 to 17:00 in them in the week prior to the SHI.... plenty of time to put an item up.... and for the World Cup there was an entire MONDAY before a news item appeared on Tuesday afternoon (again with full time people working on the World Class programme).
My point is (in case you don't understand it) that BOF are using elite orienteering as a conerstone of their 3P policy... but they do little to promote this side of a 'competitive sport'. It is not a sport to see how many PC policies we can claim to have fulfilled this week!!!!
No further comments from me on this subject on the SHI thread... and congratulations to England on reclaiming the title from the Scots.

I did, but as we all know it's very difficult for orienteering to present itself as a spectator sport. The planners had done a good job of making the race visible, especially for the first and last five minutes of each relay lap but the bottom line is that this was a very low key event held on a cold hillside with no atmosphere for spectators. In fact I gave up watching after the first laps and went and ran the public race which was happening simultaneously, I actually got quite a good feel for the final lap as I met the runners out on their course. The number of people watching, who were not involved in some way with the event, could probably be counted on one hand.
That of course doesn't mean that it's not an important race and worthy of "press" coverage. There isn't though, I believe, a three line whip for all the best (at least English) runners to attend. If BOF did promote it hard might people not wonder why the likes of Jamie, JD and GG, who they had read about in focus or world champs bulletins ,were not there?

No mention of JEC???
To be fair, with a new website still being bedded in, and for that reason only limited staff currently with access to post items, its not strange that currently news is a bit slower getting posted. I am very confident that will improve when the workload is able to be spread amongst more staff members.
I really don't mind the (constructive?) criticism because I agree that these things are important but I also don't remember receiving too many bouquets from people on here for managing to find the time to post stories and results from JWOC on top of the 6am to 10pm days of being a team manager.
Congrats to England for a great effort at the SHIs, If somebody who was there could send a report to British Orienteering I'm sure somebody will manage to post it onto the website when the staff come in to work on Monday.

Re: SHIs
Ok enough of turning even more threads into total slagging BOF off. Create a whole separate forum for that, its getting too much.
Thanks to Mark and Alice and all others for an awesome weekend, really well planned and great fun - always adds to the enjoyment if England win. Individual was really interesting, hard to be totally clean and then the relay was a beast of a course, I lost time on a route choice and from being generally slow up hills. Big boosch to Jess H who totally burnt me up the hills today! Times may look deceptive on the relay becuase of quite large gaffling in distance and height which makes Jess' run all the more impressive!

Lost in the mists of time

If Scotland loose again next year I'll need to think of coming back to get them organised (that'll make them win for sure:))
SHI is a strange competition for attracting publicity etc etc & involves a lot of work for the organisers - so once again well done this years organisers & last years & next years:) As Tess says above... better to say that than BOF bash:)
