Some great junior night teams on show. British Orienteering should be justifiably proud of its juniors. A good showcase for the sport at its best.

Indeed.... a brilliant turnout. I think there were 36 teams, with between 6 and 8 runners. How many teams were there at the Harvester?

Junior orienteering is healthy! But it is only the beginning.... keep improving the numbers, and lets get the sport back to a level that it gets noticed and taken seriously!!

Well done to the organising team. It was an experience that our juniors will remember fondly.

Indeed a superb turnout, and by all reports a great event organised by BAOC - they've done the business again!

One point about results: EVERY team runs in the Peter Palmer Trophy (unless specifically n/c). The other classes are sub-categories within the race. I was disturbed to see that orienteering result-itis has struck this competition with everybody split into different classes. As far as I can see, the PPR results were

1-Aire, 2-OD, 3-SLOW, 4-Sarum, 5-HOC, 6-Ebor

Not as listed in the results.

Where are you seeing the results or am I misunderstanding your comment?

The results linked through the BOF website. These show the Joan George and NOC (that should read NOR I think) Trophies as if they are completely separate races from the PPT. For example, OD, who won the JGT, are not listed under the Peter Palmer, even though they were competitive in it (all JGT and NOR competitors are part of the PPT by definition). According to the published results, SLOW were 2nd but they weren't, they were 3rd behind Aire and OD. And so on.

Thanks, clear where you have seen the results and agree that it's not clear regarding overall results, it would be nice to see where we (meaning each club) finished.

Anybody,
Final details said prizes for first, second and third in each competition. What happened to the presentations for 3rds ???? "Juniors like a good presentation ceremony".

Good turnout by clubs and kids, not so good turnout from BO officials with anything to do with junior oing. Not even a mention of it on their news page on website.

Thanks for the results. If you want to have a report of an event on the BOF website, the organiser needs to email it to them. You can't expect them to be at *every* event around the country. From my experience, if someone involved in the event sends a report, it goes on the website almost immediately.

Good to see but, with apologies for being pedantic, which set of results are the "official ones" for the Peter Palmer Trophy: the "All teams" one (which does say "Peter Palmer Trophy all teams" in the document), or the one listed under "Peter Palmer Trophy"? I hope and expect the former! The latter misses out most of the teams competing for the Peter Palmer Trophy, and to my mind really needs taking down!

Also, were there no clubs eligible for both NOR and JGT? Maybe, but I ask, as it looks as if the results have been set up so that no team can feature in more than one trophy, and that isn't the way the PPR has ever been.

Going on about this, because I'd hate this sort of precedent to be set without it being challenged.

Thanks for a really great event! Planners did a supreme job, managing to make a decently challenging Green course on a technically lacking area. They even managed to force some route choice out of us, which, looking at the maps beforehand, I thought would be unlikely.

The area was really unusual and fun to run on, and very dis-orientating! I remember being very surprised each time I found myself at the assembly area!

Are there any plans to include splits?

Never have, and never will, understand mis-punching. Nobody is too young/inexperienced to understand how to check the code. It's almost impossible and it happens so much at loads of events. Why?

The reason why some of the first and second leg runners were DQ'd is because they weren't map reading, they were just trying to hang onto the leading pack. I was marshal at the spectator control crossing point stile and a number of kids didn't even realise they were at that point of the course and were about to go past the finish for the second loop.Unfortunately the competitors who didn't bother to map read fell foul of the gaffling.

The instructions clearly stated which legs would be gaffled and I remember I briefed all the first leg runners a minute before the start of the race that courses were gaffled and all competitors should make sure they check control codes. However under race pressure, the heat of the moment and the thought of not letting their teams down a number of runners threw caution to the wind and paid for it. I must say it was an exciting race to watch and follow with the leading team places changing constantly. Hopefully for the less experienced and the few experienced runners that got it wrong they will be more the wiser next time round.

Again hats off to the mapper, planner, controller, emit team and last but not least the organiser who was really the star of the show. Maj Tony McCleavy is the Quartermaster at Yardley Chase and he with the help of the local Army Cadet Force provided the accommodation,food and had the forethought to recut all the rides and clear brambles from the ditch and fence crossing points, which I sure you and the rest of the competitors really appreciated.

Finally hopefully the success of the PPR's will entice all the novice Oer's to try the YB and Schools Score Champs and Brit Schools Champs later this year.

But this year we were the 2nd team to finish, again being the 1st handicap team. However, we got the JG Trophy again but weren't awarded our 2nd place. Instead SLOW, who finished a few minutes after us, got the 2nd place prizes that we thought we deserved.

My understanding of the overall results is it should be the "All teams" list (as AWK and you hope/expect). The deviation from how things have been done in past years really needs sorting out and a crystal clear,easy to understand statement of how it will be done in future put in the event guidelines (to cover who can win what and which positions will be awarded prizes).

However, as one of the few people who made predictions for the winners of the trophies and games (?) you win the prize I offered. If you are at the Dales event this weekend find me or an MDOC junior and they shoud be able to point you in my direction.

There was a similar discussion this year about the Harvester trophies / prizes. The decision taken was that no team could win more than one trophy or prize. The Peter Palmer organisers appear to have taken the same approach.

From an 'encouraging juniors' point of view, it would seem better to spread the prizes round as many teams as possible rather than heap all the rewards on just one or two clubs.
