I (my parents) recently purchased the Inov8 Mudroc 280 (green ones) and used them on the karrimor, absolutely amazing, feet were less sore than when I wore Olway Tigers for the same race last year. Although I must say that in rougher stuff I would still use my Olways because the Inov8s would probably disintegrate at the very sight of a bramble. For fells and open moorland wouldn't say anything is better though.
Bedders.

I'd second everything bedders says. Mudrocs are perfect for open fell, and much better than O shoes. Given the suitable terrain I will always use Mudrocs out of preference. However I wouldn't use them in brambles and brashings etc. (apart from anything else the one time I wore them fighting through gorse the thorns came straight through the uppers into my feet - ouch!), for which I use Nike (!) O shoes. IIRC on JK day 1 this year on Brown Clee I wore Mudrocs, on day 2 on the Chase I wore O shoes.
Disclaimer: Inov-8 are one of Team Sleepmonsters' sponsors, but if and when I have to pay for them I will. Maybe I should see if they will make some with studs and tougher uppers.

Inov8's have served me well throughout 2005 and are still looking good. As I am 90kgs they have to put up with a lot of, granted not so fast, pounding.
I bought some Asics Gel road shoes at the same time and they have long since fallen apart.

Good plan! They could call them Innov8 O-Roc.
