If you don't see the difference between league and union then you don't know the games. Lineouts, mauls, rucks. The defence patterns are totally different. Kicking for position is different. Similarities are running, tackling, passing - that's about it.
To somebody with similar little knowledge of orienteering and fell running they would argue they are the same - running in rough terrain, a map. We however know differently.

Perhaps an orienteering event one day and a fell race the next. Then we can really see who's better!
I thought that too,
but it would be a total walkover because of the navigational demands of orienteering.
More interesting would be to race in orienteering terrain, its my view that most fell runners aren't that great in real terrain, most fell races are on paths.
A taped route round forest, all off path, through heather, bracken, bramble, brashings, fight, marshes would be interesting. Plus they'd soon get the point of gaiters...

If you could run forever ......

OK, so here's a team of Scottish-club hill running internationalists and winners of serious Scottish races in 2005
Nick Barrable
Jon Duncan
Scott Fraser
Tim Lenton
Andy Kitchin
Murray Strain
And here's the senior Scottish International Orienteering team (SHIs)
Graeme Ackland
Jason Inman
Fraser Purves
Jon Musgrave
Murray Strain
James Tullie
My money's on the fell runners

Coming soon
