Am i missing something - why all these veiled digs at the HOC day

Don't think that's the case. People know I'm Brown Clee's least biggest fan but it was def the most technical day. People are just praising day 2 because it was gorgeous forest - something we're not used to!

Very helpful guest Well i'm sure your are playing the peacemaker Fatboy and let's face it - after Stodgetta's remarks the pressure is definitely on you - so good luck I must admit the thought of putting HOC in a good light was never in my mind when we agred to take on the event centre and camp site - I was just thinking of doing a good job show casing the region - even though it was entirely HOC run - perhaps I shpould be more parochial in my attitude

well it's a bit of a shock to me too - i thought our aim was to put on the best event we possibly could in the West Midlands - i hadn't seen it as clubs competing with each other to put on the best day - obviously I'm coming from a different direction on this - or i wouldn't have spent so much of the last year working on my part of the event which took place in Chasers territory and worked on the Harlequins day - I'd have let someone else do it - how about you Klebe or you Stodgetta:wink:

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick Mrs H. Nobody has commented on this as WCH v HOC. They've simply stated that they really enjoyed Day 2 of the WMOA JK. Unfortunately, for some of those posting here, Day 1 of the WMOA JK was blighted by the voided courses, so it would be unlikely that they would be raving about the planning. Who put it on has been completely immaterial to the debate, just as the fact that certain HOC members led up the event centre team was completely immaterial to the praise given in other threads.

I really don't think I got the wrong end of that particular stick Do you? That is the only comment that is bothering me. it was both uncalled for and unkind as I know for a fact there are several people in HOC who are mortified and don't need cheap jibes like that....and of course anonymous guest"s.

I see Mrs H. - but you did say "all these digs", not one particular one. I understood Stodgetta's comment at the time as being more in the line of 'there but for the grace of God', rather than a dig, but obviously open to different interpretations. As for guest's: it was simply a blunt explanation to your query as to why a thread started by an M21E was praising Day 2 not Day 1. You did effectlvely ask!

If it had been started by an M14, I suspect the planners would have received a lot of praise (and did from those on my course).

Thanks everyone for all the great comments about the courses. They are very much appreciated by Doug and myself. I am just about coming round after the event, finally returned the renumbered stakes last night.

Unfortunately, for some of those posting here, Day 1 of the WMOA JK was blighted by the voided courses, so it would be unlikely that they would be raving about the planning.

Actually, I thought the planning was very good. One misplaced control is unfortunate, but the protest which led to the voiding cited unreasonably low hanging and the iffy mapping, which weren't entirely the planners fault.

On the plus side, the planner showed great imagination in having the elite start 4km from assembly (a brave and correct decision), the course design included a full variety of terrain (much more varied than day 2) without going anywhere horrible. It tested map reading, route choice, compass work, fast running, climbing and, with the big climbs at the end, pace judgement. The spectator control was amusing for spectators seeing competitors at their most knackered.

...and if the controller had raised the controls a few inches, nobody would have complained.
