Surely current results boards (as seen at the scottish) would be sufficient with a little extra support. The added bonus being that there is already space for paper results underneath.

Hmmm, it appears I was thinking of the O-Ringen boards which would certainly support a monitor or two.

Yet another edit: Also, if all the machine needs to do is display web pages, theres no need to spend money on Windows. Linux () would work fine and also bypass the windows monitor limit.

What about using a lightweight aluminium scaffolding tower? The monitors should all fit within the framework and it could have a tarpaulin type canopy to keep everything dry. Boards could be fitted around the lower part for paper results/ flyers/ promotional materials to be fixed to.

Sorry haven't got access to one - just an idea.

Just in case anyone is interested. This is how far I've got:



As you hopefully can see the top N places are fixed while that course is being displayed and the bottom part rotates round with the "minor" placings. The courses then rotate.

Techie bit - It works as a post-processor on the IOF standard XML I keep banging on about so it works with standard output from OE2002 (this example file is from there - think it was last years CSC race on Cannock Chase) as well as my district event software (still being refined...). You just dump a new copy of the XML file over the top of the old one and it picks it up when it's finished a full rotation of the courses. Once I've finished polishing it I'll stick it up somewhere for download.

Yes (although slightly a pain in the a**e in Java because of Sun's o/s independence purity drive, but there's the following issues:

1) If you're (say) showing 46-60th on Blue and you get a new file what page do you show next? Do you go back to the beginning or do you show 61-75? Both have issues - if you go back to the beginning and updates are happening regularly then people on courses at the end of the list won't see their results. If you show the next page regardless then it will look funny when Bob Smith was in 59th place, oh and he's in 62nd as well!

2) The real issue is getting the XML out of the main app in an automated fashion. Funnily enough when my stuff is ready it will do this, but I'm not sure what OE is doing - yes auto web uploads but presumably this is just pre-formatted HTML not the XML? Stodge is the man to know.

is doing a new release of most of his software with sportident UK (with my sportident UK hat on)ready for the World Cup which we are helping with.

I think it is currently an extended version of the existing HTML output with timed ftp , but I can ask.
Its out in BETA but Ive not yet had a play

He has also added biography info to the 'speaker' software

Sounds risky - I hope you really mean a new release that has been thoroughly proven via use at lots of smaller and less important events first...!
