I don't have an issue with loop gaffling per se, but the layout of the course for the final - with the two loops squeezed into a tiny area and overlapping with each other - almost seems to have been designed to be difficult to interpret. I'm also not convinced that trying, in effect, to follow two head-to-head races going on in parallel works very well for spectators given the tempo of the format.
I do think runners' choice has potential, particularly if it's used to force a choice between significantly different routechoices, rather than between controls within a few metres of each other.
