I think you would be struggling to get much signal for data with your fancy phone out on the hills in that part of the world. I don't think anything went up till people had all started.
Looking at the elite course there is not really a great deal of route choice, to be honest it's a bit disappointing there are not any longer legs. It will of course still be a tough day.

Re: LAMM 2014 Strathcarron
Have just discovered you can see all the controls on the routegadget if you click on the button, means you can see where the score course folk went. I was surprised the score course class had the most finishers but then looked at the OMM for comparison and saw they had loads of score folk too. I'm surprised as I didn't think score courses on MMs were publicised as much as the point to point courses. Why do we struggle for entrants to the Scottish O score champs when score courses are popular? Should our long o have a score class (although that would probably mean even more time spent putting out and bringing in controls). Should we target running clubs when we put on score events as being good practice for those thinking of doing a score MM, although searching for the right thicket or boulder isn't part of MM navigation so it probably would only work with long Os which attract some of the MM crowd anyway.
Looks as though they didn't have the torrential downpour we did yesterday. The Nicolls from Tay are going well.

you can't see where they went as they haven't put all the score controls on the map, just the ones used by the linear courses. Gives a vague idea of the areas but the score maps will be interesting when they do show them.

Well we did as planned, had a truly superb day saturday, long loop north of the munros, great views, several picnics, 170 points but 140 of them were taken away... Completed the circuit (total 31 miles approx.) today. Great fun.

Well done all, hope it doesn't clash with our double SOL weekend with FVO next year as I fancy doing it but am organising Dunalastair.
Look forward to seeing the LAMM score courses on routegadget

Re: LAMM 2014 Strathcarron
Why so many on Score at LAMM?
I think it is partly because some courses (especially C and D) become a procession across open terrain - the navigation is simple and there are few route variations. Doing Score is a way to escape the crowds and enjoy the hills while setting your team more of a mental challenge.
You don't get this effect with traditional O. To be alone in the woods can be unnerving rather than peaceful.

Spot on AncientFootsteps, I'd always choose Score to avoid procession. Also, I find it just feels less like a race, which for me is a good thing.

There certainly wasn't a procession the way HilaryQ chose to go! They also thought they could get away with a long picnic without being spotted. Anyway it was very noble that she allowed her ageing boss to beat her.
